Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Working On Brand-New 3D Super Mario Game For Wii U?

Of course they are! I just hope they dont rape the IP as much as they have done this gen...

It's no surprise, but I can't wait to see what they come up with next. Providing thats not just a straight sequal to SMG2, id like to see them try combine the hubworld and almost town like, populated worlds of sunshine with the more innovative levels of the galaxy series.

2013 sounds a bit early to me. They finished Mario 3D Land in late 2011 so (assuming it is developed by the same team as the last three 3D Mario games) that would only give them 2 years to develop this game. I'm thinking 2014... but hey I won't complain

Well as you know  3d modelling,  programming , story, bug testing etc.  is not done by the same people. And it also takes some time from being GOLD/ready for mass production   to hit shelves.

So we can asume that development of the game started at least 1 year earlier and both titles may have been developed simultaneously.
So it might already have 3 years or more when it comes out late 2013   plus I dont think that making a Mario game takes as much time as making a e.g. Zelda

But then it took almost 3 years from  Mario Galaxy 1 to  Mario Galaxy 2   and on the other only 1 year after Galaxy 2 we saw Mario 3d Land.

Hmm..............

Didn't Galaxy release just one year after Wii came out? I look much more forward to seeing (and trying) this Mario game than that other one.

Does my eyes deceieve me or am i seeing pezus saying he plays Mario O_O

Sure did. But I'm looking forward to it mainly because I like to be surprised and Galaxy was something surprising and different. NSMB is just...stagnant

I thought I was the only one who thought that ;p, its also the reason why I managed to beat SMG1 and SMG2 but not NSMBW :(

I need to finish it zzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz.

Same for me lol.    I just finished New Super Mario Bros  for DS  2 weeks ago  after SIX YEARS.  And The Wii version is also not finished yet.

The games have no charm and dont feel as polished as Mario Bros 3 or World.  I somehow never liked NSMB.

I really liked the DS game (haven't played the new one enough to judge yet), but the Wii version was a bit lacking in charm to me, too.

They need to rekindle the magic that made Super Mario World so spectacular.  Here's hoping for NSMBU to deliver.

This was basically confirmed in the Iwata Asks for Super Mario 3D Land, that both the 3D (EAD Tokyo) and 2D (EAD) Mario teams would take things from the development of SM3DLand for their next projects, Koizumi is EAD Tokyo (3D Mario) and Tezuka is EAD (2D Mario):

http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/3ds/super-mario-3d-land/1/4

Iwata

It is satisfying both as a showcase of all that's good about 2D and 3D and as the grand sum of what you've done so far in 3D.

Koizumi

Yes. The fun contained in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine is scattered throughout, so it's fun to look for those places. I think this game will be key in leading to the next Super Mario game—a new point of origin, or a crossroads.

Iwata

I see. Tezuka-san?

Tezuka

This game feels like a collaborative project with 2D Super Mario, so it introduces various devices and enemies from 2D Super Mario, as if to say, "This is how they look in 3D!" I feel like we are introducing something new to players of 2D Super Mario. I want to reflect what we gained from Super Mario 3D Land in the next 2D Super Mario game.

Iwata

Both 2D and 3D Super Mario games may receive an influence from and build upon what appears in this game.

Also just a FYI, SM3DLand was made by a subset team of EAD Tokyo, not the main group. The main group has not made a big game since Super Mario Galaxy 2 wrapped in 2010. And really SMG2 was basically ready by late 2009, they opted to move it into 2010 to give NSMB Wii space.

Super Mario 3D U for 2013 would be highly, highly likely. I suspect Donkey Kong Country Returns 2 will be ready to go for 2013 too.

Holiday 2013 would pretty fucking awesome! I just hope it's a huge open world game. Kind of like Mario 64, but with bigger levels.

"Games are a trigger for adults to again become primitive, primal, as a way of thinking and remembering. An adult is a child who has more ethics and morals, that's all. When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

Shocking. Next we'll learn Nintendo is working on a Zelda game for WiiU.

Nah, not likely. They usually only work on one major title for a console at once.

different teams. or sarcasm?

As far as the mainline 1st pure first party developed games go. I've never seen them release within 3 months of each other. You may get something like Mario Sports or Fling Smash, but a full fledged Mario Game full fledged Zelda generally do not come out in the same year.

right but of coure many main series games like mario and zelda and metroid can be in development at the same time  because different teams develop them.

NINTENDO

nintendo forever . . .

EAD Tokyo have two core teams that share most human resources. One team worked in Super Mario Galaxy and Mario 3D Land, whereas the second worked in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and is probably developing the Wii U game right now.
