A203D said: You said a lot of hate you for (justifiabily) shitting on FF13. I think its ridiculous that you would say that.
Even if someone dosent like you for your personal opinion, its not your problem, its theirs. And honestly, that opinion is shared among many fans. In fact many have been far more vocal about it. Anyway, I look foward to reading the article. I agree its unfair to bash the game relentessly, but there are reasonabily justifiable points that a lot of gaming journalists have not explored.
Ah, got it now.
Truth be told I'm rather hesitant to write up the article and post it...not becuase I'm worried about people disagreeing (I'm not, I acknowledge people will likely hate me for it), but becuase I highly doubt it'd initiate any intelligent conversation. I'd like for it to get people talking, actually DISCUSSING the source of the issues at the root of the problem and what it means for the future of the series...but that's not going to happen.
That and...well, I rarely see an article posted here that is serious and NOT just trollin for hits, and I really don't want to be seen as "just another professional troll" like Jim Sterling. I hate the idea of grading games based solely on what I expect will get me hits, or posting an inflammatory article just to piss people off. No, I want to get discussion going, sadly the topic at hand is sure to get its fair share of heat.
Well I hope you write and publish because I look forward to reading it. It'd be interesting to see a full critique of the game with the full benefit of hindsight. As A203D says, you could work it into the context of XIII-3 being announced.
I'm still trying to put it together, writing an article like that requires a certain level of finesse that I'm not so sure I have at this moment in my life. I have the points, I have the examples, and I have the details and comparisons needed to accentuate the issues with the game, but every time I write it, it comes across as being horribly amateurish and ramblomatic. Working on structure and flow in an article like that is hard, I find.

Egoraptor is a silly man who says silly things but provides a good platform for discussion about game design.
Tell me, what do you see as the primary difference between Sequelitis (particularly this and the Mega Man X video) and what you end up writing in your itemized FF13 hate lists?
as a major fan of sequelitis, I can assure you my 'haterants' are not the same as his comparisons. mostly because he's not assuring that one product is shit, he's just comparing what works and what doesn't.
Castlevania 1 vs Castlevania 2 was a good example. He certainly had some complaints about 2, which were detailed and inclusive, which is somewhat similar to what I have to say about XIII. The stuff about the agonizingly long animation as the world shifted from night to day or the indecipherable clues to the puzzles are similar to my complaints about the unfair inconsistency in the Paradigm shift animations or the impossible to predict instant death moves of some enemies.

Now you've hit upon the crux of the issue.
Do you think you can take that knowledge and apply it in a way that makes your own article a better platform for discussion?

The difference is that he's just comparing what works to what doesn't. I'll be comparing what works and what doesn't to explain why one is shit and the other is a masterpiece.
Final Fantasy XIII currently stands at a rating of 85 % on Gamerankings and 83 % on Metacritic. The User-Rating currently stands at 8.0/10. I could also quote several German reviews and they would show ratings around 80-90 %. I simply fail to see this "general consensus that FF XIII was bad"...
I find it incredible that FFXIII-2 has sold over 50% of what FFXIII sold.
FF has a very large, very loyal hardcore following. SE is lucky in that even after they screwed up so badly for the last years, the FF core base is so strong that they keep getting new chances. They better take the next one (after FFXIII-3 that is...).
