i've had two toshiba laptops , TWO, and they all died quickly, they're just not built to last. |

You should take a look at this statistical study: http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/SquareTrade_laptop_reliability_1109.pdf
The fact that you have had an unfortunate experience with toshibas is pure coincidence, because that statistical analysis actually shows Toshiba as the 2nd most reliable laptop manufacturer there is, only behind Asus (and very slightly behind, at that).

Also thought I would mention, to those saying you don't need to spend as much, the report will also clearly indicate that price DOES have a correlation with reliability in laptops. Buy a nicer, more expensive laptop, and it will not fail as frequently.

Oh, and for a more recent report: http://www.rescuecom.com/news-press-releases/Computer-Reliability-Report-2012.aspx
Surprise surprise, Toshiba is...still rated extremely well for reliability.

wow you go back early, i don't go back to school until the 5th of September!!
But anyway, Sony Vaio is a decent make laptop and so are Apple MacBook's, both are fast, reliable and quite portable. It's your choice though...

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030
You have apple on the list...how much is macbook pro in the US? here starts from 1250 euro ~ 1650 USD
next option should be a vaio or hp
I have a Vaio and it's great - 2 years old, no issues what so ever and it looks the part. Cost me £500.
So I'd totally recommend Vaio, but I've heard that Vaio's are only good if you get at least a mid-tier model.
Otherwise, I'd say Asus. Avoid Dell.
