You have apple on the list...how much is macbook pro in the US? here starts from 1250 euro ~ 1650 USD

next option should be a vaio or hp

Absolutely not.  HP should literally be an absolute last resort.

On another note, don't forget to follow through with the free xbox 360 arcade with purchase of a windows computer worth $700 if you get one that costs that much.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

and whatever you do , NEVER buy a toshiba laptop

I have to chuckle whenever people say this.  I have had nothing but love for my toshiba laptop, which is a couple years old now.  Has it ever overheated on me (which is why I'm assuming you say this)?  Yes, it has.  But it was almost expected in the scenario.  There was literally zero air flow in my dorm room, leading to dust issues.  Simply blowing out my laptop with dust remover every month while living in the dorms fixed any and all issues.

I love my toshiba laptop too. Bought 3 years ago for $550. Still going strong, and also doesnit heat up like the Alienware I had bought before it. But for laptops I am not brand loyal, I look at user reviews before buying one, because every company has lemons here and there in the laptop department.

Also, my advise is to get a Squaretrade warranty that includes accidental damage. My friend had a Macbook and dropped it, Apple care said since it was his fault, he would have to pay to get it fixed. The same friend dropped his iPad this time with Squaretrade warranty, They fixed it and sent it back in a week, good as new. Another friend dropped his smartphone in the toilet, Squaretrade said it was unfix-able and wrote him a check within a week of him sending it in.

Toshiba all the way. Had this laptop for a good 3 years and it's still going strong with no signs of slowing. And I haven't exactly treated it delicately over the years.
