Forums - Sony - Sony rules out Vita price cut in 2012; says "it's too early"

Sony is just going to have to accept low sales for the next few months and then ride out the holidays.

But seriously, what is up with the bundling? They are going to literally bundle all 4 titles positioned to boost Vita this year? Doesn't that negate some of the sales they need from software or am I missing something...?

Expensive memory card = stupid

I was thinking that too but I guess they're just desperate the move units at this point.

Cross-buy certainly won't help Vita software sales either since you're essentially getting free games.  I think it's a strategy Sony's hoping will pay off in the long term.

The memory cards probably bring in a lot of profit for sony..

Revenue... certainly not profit.

you don't think they're making so much revenue that it turns into profit on memory cards?

perhaps another coffin nail for vita. hopefully not, don't let bigN dominate portable consoles.

Were you also the same guy saying the same things back in 2007 about the PS3? Don't flame by calling it another nail in the coffin. Atleast Sony is not in a hurry to do a panick pricecut wich will result in them losing more money like it happened with Nintendo.

Why is a price drop so suddenly frowned upon like it's a bad thing?

For the record, Nintendo was in A LOT better position to take a lose on a price drop than Sony is - which is probably the only reason why Sony haven't dropped the price of the Vita yet.

Are these "panic" bundles then?  Cause the Sony is in a worst position with the Vita than Nintendo ever was with the 3DS.

I think Nintendo's price cut was 'panic' price cut. They are king of handhelds for generations, they did not need to reduce the price to sustain loss. They could just rely on $150 million DS fanbase alone. They did that only to save themselves from $250 vita price.

Sony always does bundles, it's nothing new. I don't think they are 'panic' bundles. The panic would be to cut the price and sustain loss on every Vita sold.

Cross-buy is gonna damage that too I agree. Right now it is like Sony is doing too much - they are giving out Vita games for free, along with some titles being given out on Playstation Plus. They are bundling whatever has a ghosts chance of selling on its own, and don't forget the frustration that will come when owners run out of space.

Look at the revenue lost from all those bundled games...*sigh*

Japan better give them something at TGS because the way it is looking, the Vita CANNOT survive another year of sales in 2013 like they did this year, price drop regarded.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Well, having 4 games guaranteed to hit millions sellers is great on the resume.

I don't think you can really guarantee a game to be a million seller on a platform with less than 10 million users (and probably not until there are 20 million sales); and the more games released on a system that has a small userbase the more likely these games will have (relatively) poor sales.

Nintendo cut the price because the 3DS was performing below expectations.  So they admitted it and did what they had to do, which was a great move.  As for "panic bundles"(which I was saying in response to Turkish being overly defensive), I said that to underscore my point that if Nintendo's price cut was considered panicking, then these bundles would have to be considered panicking too - given Vita's situation is FAR more dire than 3DS' ever was.

I agree, Sony has to have something major for TGS in order to save the system.  My only thing is, if it's not Monster Hunter, then I don't know what it could be.

Vita needs a hit game to be relevant and it needs within the next six months.  Otherwise, it won't make it.

Why ask to SONY to price drop!!!??? SONY is losing money whith VITA right now!!

SONY its Nr1 for Copy Paste

Where is this rumor coming from that Vita is selling at a loss?

http://www.industrygamers.com/news/playstation-vita-3g-actually-profitable-for-sony/
Display and touchscreens: $50
Battery: $3.60
Cameras: $3.50
Wi-Fi/BT/GPS: $3.50
NAND: $6.00
SDRAM: $9.25
Processor: $16.00
BB+XCR: $16.25
Non-electronic: $11.00
Other: $30.00
Supporting materials: $10.00

+ on avg 20% marketing and a bit going to manufacturing costs. Vita is a profitable device. Regardless of how bad it is selling right now, it is still positive revenue which would be negated by a price drop.
Sony tried giving gamers something for nothing with PSP and PS3 and it only hurt them, now I guess they are doing it the way the company needs. Don't blame'm.
