Forums - Sales - Average selling price for PS360 still above $250+ after 6+ years

July NPD (per neoGaf)

PS3- $271

X360- $264

Pretty crazy that both sysems have been able to keep their sale price higher than their respective MSRP (bundles of course) this late into the generation.  I still believe both are waiting for Wii U pricing to see where they want to drop their prices to.

Main reason is due to upgraded SKU's over the years. But still, a great feat for all 3 companies, but especially MS.

At the end of last gen, you could buy all 3 main consoles for under £200. In way, it was great for MS to break the 360 into the market at launch when you could buy all 3 (PS2, XB, GC) consoles in good condition and a few games for the same price. as a non bundled 360, which ranged from £210 to £280.

I doub't the same will happen next gen. Around Q4 next year I think to buy a Wii, 360 or PS3 (good condition) will cost around £350.0

If the next console (not WiiU) releases at under £300, it will surely be a hit.

This is why i believe PS3 & 360 can still sell alot with price cut.

I wander if Kinect and SW bundles are included in that $264 X360 average.

Even if they are it's incredible that a 6½ year old console has been able to keep its price so high.

I guess when wiiu is launched we might see a price cut. I still think despite their somewhat high price current gen consoles are great value for their enormous library of games.

The price is kinda confusing at a first glance. I've seen the 360 at stores with 5games, not just crap games, but high selling and popular games.

which was ps2 price when ps3 was released?

$129

¥16,000

Just wanted to update that the average selling price for the PS3 and xbox360 is still above $250 in the US for January 2013 NPD and only 80 dollars off the Wii U (premium with a game). Both consoles don't even have mass market pricing and we are in the 8th and 7th years respectively.

For comparison sake, the Wii has been below mass market for over 3 years and the year the PS3 was launched the PS2 dropped in price from $149 to $129 on April 20th (which I think is the current price) and for the original xbox, that of course was discontinued.
