Are they? I mean, you have a 2d platformer and a game originally planned for Wii and they don't even output 1080p?
I see people defending this as, well....you know..it's hard, cut 'em some slack! Or, hey, casuals don't care about the difference in resolution! Well that's not taking HD seriously enough for me.

There's a difference between native rendered resolution and capable output. Which are we driving at here?

Similarly with the Toki Tori comment, we don't know if Two Tribes just meant 1080 output or 1080 rendering.

Why  would we assume it isn't full 1080p? Toki Tori2 isn't an intensive to run and WiiU is capable of full 1080p.

Either way though, Nintendo isn't even outputting at 1080p. Isn't that an issue in and of its own if Nintendo is truly serious about HD (and its highest form in the common realm 1080p)?

I just want to point out though that I don't expect 1080p native to be standard next gen, but that with games like 2d platformers and Pikmin 3 (previously a Wii game etc) it should be, especially for a company like Nintendo.....and it will be the standard whether they like it or not, if TT2 is any indication - Two Tribes, the devs, were until recently a god damn phone developer! Based out of the Netherlands! They MADE N-GAGE GAMES!

If specs are so important than why has the last few gen's been won by the weakest machines? Wii, PS2?

@TwRoO. It's SD I think. http://www.techdigest.tv/2011/06/wii_u_controlle.html

In Pikmin 3's case, i think it's excusable by the fact that it's originally a Wii game, whose assets are known be made in 720p. NSMBU? Nope. No excuse there.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I agree. They can't say they care about it and then not do the minimal effort needed to lead by example, it just doesn't hold together.

@Mr Khan. Is it because pikmin would be too expensive to overhaul kind of thing?

I still think Nintendo gambled wrong when showing off their third party support. It's not necessarily bad that Batman, Mass Effect, etc are getting ported over, but that's the problem: nothing new. I think once Watch Dogs, or the new Star Wars games gets shown off, most people can stop arguing (Assuming they get shown off).

You'll see old ports in any console launch window. I think the current lineup compares very favourably to the 360's initial third party offerrings (GUN, King Kong, NFS Most Wanted, some crappy Tony Hawk game and Ridge Racer...)

This is because their initial information release is targeted solely at current Wii owners.  They plan to target current HD console owners over the next couple of months.  That is where you'll see things not yet announced that will interest PS3/X360 owners.

Yes because we know Wii owners DONT have a PS3 or 360 or both

Comparatively. Pikmin does have high-detail environments for a game that will probably be lucky to hit 2 million.

Makes sense. Nintendoland no though.

@oni. I think he meant Wii-only owners. Surprinsingly enough, many exist :]

I think it comes down to games. The PS2 obvioulsy had a lot of great games on it, and the Wii had a lot of .....games that ....   ..appealed to a mass audience. It had a lot of big exclusives.

Having HD visuals is just icing on the cake for a Nintendo Console. We will still get the same games as always, except now they will look like games we would get on the PS3 with an expansion pack.

I do not really care about visuals if it is a great game. But extra space, larger worlds, and beautiful graphics will just hopefully make our Nintendo experiences better in the future.

I agree games are the most important thing. And a HD Nintendo console will be amazing! Mines already on pre-order
