Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Can Do “1080p Without Breaking A Sweat”

Good To hear :)

I heard most 3rd parties will use 1080p for their launchgames, only Nintendo won't.

All Nintendo first party titles will run at 720p in 30fps and 60fps, depending on the game.

No AAA 3rd party titles will run NATIVE 1080p, but will DISPLAY at 1080p. Expect their native resolutions to be slightly higher than PS360 versions, so most likely less sub-720p upscaled. People are taking a NIntendo rep's words out of context from Batman: AC running at 1080p, but not native. Expect solid native 720p gaming from Wii U, nothing more (unless it's a small downloadable title or 2D game).

Keep your expectations in check, and realize why Iwata's been banging on the "specs don't matter" drum for so long. If Nintendo was releasing a system capable of rendering AAA games at native 1080p, the cost would be way higher than consumers would be willing to pay. Affordable innovation over graphics is their undying mantra.

The Radeon HD 4850 was able to render multiple games that were released for the HD consoles at above 1080p@60fps ... The technology required to hit this mark is old, low cost, with low energy consumption; and there is little reason to doubt the Wii U will be able to do this.

Now, I have significant doubts that most games designed for next generation consoles will render above 720p@30fps; but that is because I expect developers to target the Wii U as "minimum requirements" and focus on getting a steady 720p@30fps out of the system while more powerful hardware might get modestly enhanced visuals rendered at a higher resolution at a faster frame rate.

Indeed.

Especially if the 60fps rumor ends up being false, then there is absolutely no reason that a 7th gen game that runs natively at 720p on PS360 wouldn't run at a native 1080p on a console with a GPU two generations ahead and 3x the RAM.

Okay. There have too many news for the Wii U that ranges between excellent to not-so-great to promising to ridiculous.
I was seriously considering purchasing it close to launch. I will now wait several months upon its release.

You really just need to wait till release to know though, right?

It was confirmed by the devs to be native 1080p

I'd say link to the source of that information, but it's all based on rumors.

This is how people get misinformed by some Nintendo Rep:

But two tablets at once will make it sweat bricks :P

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

LET ME REPLY IN SONY 'S WAY -

"I DONT SPEAK ABOUT SPECULATION"

:D HAHAHA!!!

It's all pointless, anyway. Most people don't even want 1080p. Oh, they'll say they do, but that's only in the context of all other things being equal. Obviously if you could choose between 720p and 1080p, you'd take 1080. But that's not how it works. As long as 720 @ 30fps is considered acceptable, most gamers (and developers) would rather use the rest of the accessible power improving the lighting, the physics, the particle effects. Resolution and framerate don't take a priority over those kinds of things.

People who game on 32 inch TV's or less shouldn't give a shit about 1080p or 720p cause they won't be able to see the difference. 42 - 50 inch TV's people also shouldn't care unless they are extremely fussy or sit ridiculously close.

People who should care are the 60+ inch display crowd.

I love this argument where you tell me what my eyes can and cannot see.  I can see a clear difference on my 23" monitor, but just because you can't it doesn't mean that it doesn't matter.

The 60+ inch display crowd is not the "the human eye can only see so much" crowd, it's the "I'm rich enough to own a 60+ inch display" crowd.
