Forums - Sony - Sony having a difficult time getting third party support for the Vita

Holidays will either be the nail in the coffin or the dramatic comeback.

I totally agree!!!  I can't imagine a system going on 2 holidays and only managing to sell >8 mil units.  It's just doesn't make financial sense for 3rd parties to develop games that have a low chance of return.  Add to the fact that development cost are probably significantly higher than 3DS, iOS, and android(despite the latter two being TRUE HD gaming platforms and not qHD); one cannot blame 3rd parties for getting cold feet!

No i still want to buy a PS Vita but I'm waiting for a game i can justify buying it. Heck even amazon is selling them used for around 150 for a wifi and 200 for a 3G. I'm tempted but i shall wait.

Where do people keep pulling this dev cost non-sense from? Every dev statement points to the Vita being extremely dev friendly.

4 ≈ One

They need to sell units, far more units to get more support... but they need the software support to garner more sales. The sales of Assassins Creed and CoD will likely be the deciding factors as to Vita's success.

With the Gaikai acquisition I suspect Sony may end up cutting their losses and concentrating on streaming to smart phones and tablets instead. They just have to hold out until wireless internet technology improves.

Sony shouldn't bet so high on assassins creed, ubisoft releasing it the same day as AC3 is sending it to die. Someone at ubisoft needs to tell them to release the vita version 2-3 weeks before AC3

their job is to make sure they make first party games that sell the system which in turn should encourage 3rd parties to make games for it. As long as they rely on third parties they will die. This is not the PS2 days anymore Sony

The third parties are what helped the Playstation brand grow so big. They can't live on just their first party titles like Nintendo can.

TGS should give a clearer picture on Japanese third party support for Vita.

He never said they need to live on their first parties.

They need a mixture of both.

dev friendly doesn't mean dev cost is not higher though.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

It's a very tough spot. Can't get the sales without the games and can't get the games without the sales.

I can't blame 3rd parties for being reluctant. PSP wasn't a great game seller even with a 70m base. Vita is too expensive and they are all looking at iOS/Android as the new portable market. 3DS isn't helping either.

Even if Sony cut the price, I don't know if that would be enough to create the kind of momentum Vita needs now.

They need some ingenius marketing to convince us all we can't live without one.

Well, that explains a lot

Ass Creed looks to be even more promoted than COD - but, what about japan... think of the poor japanese market!

Japan got 'nuttin until Soul Sacrifice / FF X HD.  They really need to get some Japanese third-parties on board more than anything.
