With WoW you can stop your subscription for years and they never delete characters. Some people lose their jobs and/or run out of funds to pay per month after shelling out $60 for the game and a month to month fee why shouldn't the characters be kept? This is lame.

Even the Wii games they made were good (FFCC Crystal bearers, DQ swords, DQ monsters, Mini ninjas, Chocobo dungeon....)

According to who? For all those games (with the exception of Chocobo dungeon), the words "half-assed", "underdeveloped", and "mediocre" come to mind. Along with 997 others summed up by this:

Before you guys go all insane. They do this for FFXI and FFXIV as well. It mainly only relates to those characters who are really low level and hardly used. They do this to open up the usage of character names and what not. So if you play for a long time there's honestly no reason to be worried. Also they offer character reactivation services.

Indeed. Most of what Square makes now ranges from mediocre to terrible. The legacy of the company leads people to have a higher opinion of the games they produce then they would if the extact same game were made by someone else whith a different name. Namesake fandom keeps Square-Enix afloat.

People see the name and expect Xenogears,  FF7's and Chrono Triggers but the devs who made those are long gone from the company.
