Forums - Sony - I've decided to sell my PlayStation

Should I sell my ps3 or wait for Gamescom?

Sell it now, Gamescom won't offer anything 35 21.08%

Wait for Gamescom, you never know!! 70 42.17%

Keep the 80GB and save yo... 27 16.27%

Lulz PlayStation 34 20.48%

I'm sick and tired of only having 80GBs to work with. Because of it, I'm missing out a few PS+ games because I just don't have the space to store any of them. Also, my Playtv commitments are getting way too big for their boots, so I want to upgrade to a bigger HDD.

(Not to mention this 80GB has survived one YLOD, so it makes some sense to ditch it whilst it's still alive.)

If I sell my 80GB and a few games, I could end up only having to fork out a £100 for a 320GB console, now my question is, should I wait for Gamescom for a potential price drop announcement or even better, a 500GB console? Or just go crazy and buy one now and forever regret my desicison?

Also, if I want to get rid of every trace of my self (lulz) on my console, what do I need to do to? I obviously want to deactivate it so it doesn't count towards my 2PS3s activation thingy.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Can't you just buy a hard drive and install it yourself, copying over your information onto the new drive?

lol, you mistake me for someone competent enough to do that. Shame on you haha.

It's a pretty simple process if you have the older version of the PS3. Just read the instructions. I don't think they look too hard.

It's very simple to upgrade the harddrive in your PS3, and there is an endless amount of videos and guides out there to help you thru it.

In all seriousness, my 80GB has survived 1 YLOD, I think rather than feeding it a bigger hard drive, it would be a good idea to replace it because it's out of warranty. If it were to die again, I'm screwed

why not sell a couple games and buy a 500GB hard drive to put in your current console. Would be the easiest cheapest solution.

I'm in the same boat as you that damn pesky ps+ I have way too many games for my paltry 80gb to handle - will eventually upgrade the hard drive haven't had the YLOD like yourself, but if I did I think I would wait for the PS3SS and upgrade that mofo

Okay yeah that's fair, you better replace that

You didn't really need to make a topic for this though

Upgrade your hard-drive. Trust me, it's easier than you'd think. Here's a walkthrough of how to do it:

http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=362

I upgraded from 40 to 500GB and couldn't be happier. Even at worst, you could just buy a cheaper 'bigger' hard drive (i.e. 160, 320) and then wait for the new announcement if you want to buy a slim PS3. Best of both worlds - gets you sorted for the mean-time, gets you a new PS in the long run.

But seriously, even I thought I would mess up putting in a new hard drive, but it was really simple. Just be careful with the screws.

edit: And if your current PS3 dies with your new hard drive in, simple buy the smallest hard-drive PS3 you can and move the hard-drive across.  You'd have to reformat it and you'd lose all your installs, but you'd still keep a bigger hard drive.

edit 2: If you're worried about YLOD, make sure your regularly back up your saves either on a flash drive or cloud saves (if you have PS+)
