I was hoping you pointed to this game. I own this game and though I agree that there is dramatic graphical degradation, it is only aparant during the close ups of the character models. Once zoomed out (in actual kombat) the graphics appear just fine. The problem lies in the translation from cut scene to gameplay. In the original title the transition was more flawless because of the console capabilities and expertise of code on the several year old systems, moving from cut scene to gameplay didn't cut down graphics that much at all. On the Vita they aren't making this game specific to the console and to port over the code they had to make adjustments in order to maintain 60 frames per second (something important in fighting games wereas timing is everything). Reducing character models allows for 60 fps and maintaining the background graphics, unfortunetly that means it is super apparent during the close up sections right before the battle because they used gameplay graphics for the couple seconds before the fight in the home console version. If made only for the Vita they would have avoided this and saved our eyes. Thankfully they chose this route instead of sacrificing frames per second.
Something the Vita version has over home consoles is touch screen capabilities for executing X-ray attacks (unfortunetly those are close up though). The Vita game also includes all the DLC from the get go and an exclusive bonus challenge tower of 150 challenges, that's 50% more challenges compared to the home consoles version, even the Komplete version doesn't have these. Those 150 challenges also utilize Vita specific controls, touchscreen and six-axis.
Watered down? I think not.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
