He claims that since this is going to be a very small increase, the overall prices for packaged games will very likely remain at $60.

So what do you guys think? I hope what he is saying it true.

This patcher guy sounds like he should keep his mouth shut. He's getting kind of annoying.
Of course prices will increase. They always do.

But actually, I'd be surprised if they stays at $60.

There is a possibility of $60 price point remaining standard now that digital distribution and DLC is in the equation. It's done wonders to increase profitability this gen. Even though graphics will be improving next gen the most expensive parts already happened this gen. Voice acting, motion capture, online interfaces; they are already part of the current cost breakdown of many games. Improving graphics won't be too costly, the engines they are making for next gen use are probably more time saving and capable than engines have ever been. These engines are flexible, their effects should be more turn on and off than before, so I'm not really surprised if costs don't go up like they used to. There is always the talk that next gen won't be that big of a graphical leap, and though I don't truly believe that, that sentiment could be a litmus test on the added expense of next gen.

For some reason this made me laugh.

Once games exceed $59.99 we can all expect a major software decline. Handheld games should have never passed $25, and console efforts should have never passed $50.

10-15 percent is still high

Back in Canada, 12 years ago the cheapest I found Final Fantasy X was 78.99.  The way I see it, games have come down in price :D.  On another note, SNES games used to cost 80+ dollars.  I think Super Street Fighter 2 was over 100.

I don't remember anything before '96 or '97
my first game system was a Gameboy color, and my parents always paid for the games. First home console was a Gamecube. My parents didn't play games, so I had to introduce myself to them.
