I just want it BIGGER for god sake. I am an adult, not 13 years old anymore.

pretty much this.  the layout of the dual shock is fine overall but i prefer the 360 controller just because it's size is more ergonomic for me.

...i really, really don't under stand why all  3 (nintendo/sony/MS) all don't officially support at least 2 sizes of controllers.  seems like a no brainer that kids and adult hands aren't the same size and peripherials tend to make money.

Ahem! Adult here, I like the size as is. I'd say I have medium hands, so perhaps those with massive dinnerplate-sized hands with huge sausage fingers might experience problems to which I can't relate. So I won't say don't make it bigger, but I would say there's probably only a minority of adults for whom the controller is objectively too small.

As I'm used to PS sized controllers I find 360 controllers to look rather monstrous and unweildy. But I've never used one so I can't say that they are monstrous and unwieldy.

Which one's the 360 controller? The monstrous and unwieldy one or the gargantuan and terrifying one?

i'm not calling you out as not being an adult lol.  all i'm saying is this:

...there are quite a range in hand sizes.  ms/sony/nintendo are trying to capture all sides of the market.   ..so why have a "one size fits" all approach??  i could use one a bit bigger.  i've seen kids in desprite need of something smaller.   why not officially support a couple sizes ... i'm sure they'd sell more controllers overall which is always sold at a profit.  where is the down side?

..wii had least gave out those condoms.  a pain to take on/off but the wii mote by itself was waaay to small for my hand.

Actually I was calling out Pesmerga on the adult thing.

One problem though is for the wee ones the Sony controller is too big, so they'd have to make a smaller controller still for the kiddies market. So they could, if anything increase the size of the standard (i.e. in the box) controller by maybe 15% then make a controller that is 20% smaller than the standard size for the little'uns. However, the would probably sell bugger all of the little'uns controller given 95% of the player market have hands big enough to cope with the standard size controller.

But if you make the standard size controller 15% bigger that creates difficulties for those who's hands are on the lower end of the spectrum, but who can use the standard controller without any problems. And it makes it even less user friendly for the 5% whose hands were already too small for the current size. Thus making a bigger standard controller gives greater scope for being able to sell reasonable amounts of the smaller controller, but still only a very small segment of the market would see the smaller controller as a necessity.

At the other end of the spectrum, those with gigantic hands who objectively can't cope with the current PS3 controller size are probably as small a niche as those who's hands are too small (among those who can realistically play a video game, i.e. not infants and particularly young toddlers). There are lots of people who's hands can reasonably cope with the current size, but who are accustomed to the 360 sized controller and therefore find the PS3 controller to be small, but they could becoome accustomed to the PS3 controller if they chose to try.

So, for Sony to make official controllers in more than one size is possibly a marginal proposition, especially when there are aftermarket producers who can ape various semi-proprietary designs (e.g. aftermarket PS3 controllers that look a lot like 360 controllers) and satisfy those market niches.

Last I remember there wasn't a market for bigger controllers, only for smaller ones like the micros we saw last gen. Never saw a macro version.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I say, whoever considers the shape of the d-pad perfect hasn't played 2D games or PS1 games with it for any length of time. The way it's divided in the middle makes no sense and is a thumb-killer. It's ok to for instance select weapons with it in a modern first person shooter, but it's not ok for actually playing games with it for extended periods.

I put in about a thousand hours between all of Capcom's fighting games (Except Jojo's Bizarre Adenture, which I never got).  Other than blisters, which I agree with you, I found it just fine.

Borrow the 360 controller, and I'm happy.

I don't use the d pad for very much, but I imagine heavy usage is rough. Nintendo's d pad is the best but they have that patented. And lets be honest the d pad on the 360 is absolute garbage. I also think the psp d pad is sonys best, it is not raised as much and isn't as rough on the thumb.

The D-Pad's real usage, happens with 2D platformers. I HATE using the analog sticks for that kind of games.
If the PS4 was to have a redesigned controller, I wouldn't want to see the D-Pad turned into something like the XBOX 360 or the GameCube.

sony should keep the same basic design with a few tweaks.

I've always like the D-pad, I find it odd there are people who don't like it as much. I haven't had blisters on my thumbs since I bought Mortal Kombat for the Vita. Damn did that wear my thumb out. I doubt it has much to do with the controllers D-pad and more to do with the aggressiveness of use, but I could be wrong. I like the individual buttons, allows for more precision. I remember when PS first got the analogs, it took me a long time to warm up to them and I would often find myself using the d-pad even for games that provide an advantage with the analog.

Much needed change.

Reposition the left analog stick. Also fill the hand more and some decent TRIGGERS please.
