Forums - Nintendo - Wii U: Why it'll be a genuine game-changer

I really hope the Wii U gets more attention from third-party developers, they are a great company and they deserved more attention from them. Really looking forward for the Wii U!!

whats that pad/portable that has only one circle pad? an early wiiu gamepad?
looks like an enormous 3DS without the upper screen...shows where their inspiration came from
i cant wait to have it in my hands

You mean the android tablet with controls that somehow got through the post? http://jxd.hk/2012/

Inspiration for that came afterwards.

You say tomato, I say tomato

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

"WAS it really been a year since we first clapped our disbelieving, slightly jet-lagged peepers on the wiiu?"

So other than the MASSIVE spelling error, interestingly enough being the FIRST word of the article, the entire thing is just a pro-nintendo opinion piece from a nintendo publication lol...

fanboys retweeting fanboys, less talk more action....if nintendo cared they would be where sony is right now, #1.

I know he didn't. I didn't say he did. I said that it isn't, because it won't bring those types of opportunities to the system as its not same thing.

The things you can do with a tablet and phone are less restrictive than the Upad. Phones and tablets have more funcitonality like like being able to touch 2 points at once. The most the Upad can bring is DS games.

Yup, DS games like Cut the Rope.

Wait...

Sony is #1? That's news to me.

As a person who has not ever played Wii, I might actually get the Wii U. To me it looks like the most interesting console. It seems Sony and MS will just want to upgrade graphical capabilities. Wii U just looks fun. Of course things might change in 3 years (which is when I plan on buying a next gen console).

No doubt the Wii-U will be a game changer

...in what direction it changes the game for Nintendo we will find out soon enough.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

The question is if the changes it brings will be adapted by the whole industry, and if it doesn't; is it really a game changer then?

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

If the tablet is any good then expect that by the time the other two consoles get properly announced at next years E3 they'll also sport tablets as well. If the tablet doesn't prove to be worth it then the other consoles won't have the expense of bundling it. I don't think they're going to pull another Cell and wait about four years after release to even prove the expense was even marginally worth it, and it really has to catch on straight away. Nintendo's advantage in previous generation sales can only evaporate as time goes by.

The console is a good offering but I have two main issues. It'd have been better released in 2011 and none of the technology involved wasn't invented in good time before the end of last year, that would have actually put some sweat on the other two console makers foreheads as they'd have had to decided whether to risk releasing on the 40nm node or wait two years between releases. It would have also capitalised on the Wii momentum a lot better.

The other issue is that the two other console manufacturers are able to release much higher performance hardware which matches or beats the Wii U in every respect and at a similar price. I don't personally see a $100 difference in cost as a gulf if the other console is able to justify the difference. People pay too much attention to list prices and forget that consoles are bought with games and accessories. The Wii + Wii Play was two games, two controllers for $300, $350 with Mario Kart etc, whereas the cheapest you could configure an equivalent HD console for in 2006 was IIRC ~$500-560 for a 20GB Xbox 360 with two controllers and one or two games..

Tease.

I concur with Squilliam.

Wii's motion controls really were a revolution and one it's competitor's couldn't quickly emulate. Wii Sports sold the concept and made it accessible to the mass market.

The touch screen merely makes WiiU a home based DS (or Vita). It seems more reactionary to what's out already (iOS) than revolutionary AND since Sony/MS systems are still far from releasing (not even announced yet) their next gen systems, they can easily follow suit if the touch screen proves popular.

MS subscription payment plan could have their next gen system launching with a price tag far lower (yet more profitable) than WiiU's.

Personally, I realize as I'm writing this, I'm just really pissed at Nintendo for abandoning everything that made Wii great - accessible gameplay (I don't want to use a dual analog controller), innovation and visceral gameplay. WiiU is not what I want. Currently, 90% of my gaming is on iOS/Android devices (9% Wii, 1% 360). I don't see WiiU changing that.

that is.......sad imo
