I won't be switching platforms this late in the generation.
However if dedicated servers became standard for all PS4 games online I would switch, but only if the next Xbox was still p2p.

We can only hope dedicated servers become standard for consoles.

To be honest I don't think I would switch to a PS3. Never really liked the PS brand. The real question for me is will I get the nextbox?

Likely too much for MS to bother:

 - Blu-Ray

- Better diversification among genres

- Better customer appreciation (stop nickel and diming and pricing hardware comparative to cost)

- More first party games (I currently don't like any of their first party - Forza is ok but I'm not a big racing sim fan)

- More reliable hardware from the start

- More actual exclusives (not timed-exclusives and DLC)

- I actually prefer the PS controller (360 controller is too fat and short - I feel like my hands are cramped)

- More cooperative approach to other parties when it comes to Live

Outside of this I don't care much for MS as a company so quite a bit of their business practices would have to change (these are things most of their fans applaud them over at smart business decisions and I won't disagree with that. I however am not as complacent as their fans to deal with "smart business decisions" that come at my own expense.

How do you breathe again?

Being able to save games to USBs

If the PS3 had those things than I'd use it a lot more.

I save all my games to my USB stick.  Just throwing that one out there.

Here are my requirements:

- Blue-Ray

- Price below $300

- Free online

- More or equal amount of high quality first party titles

- An 'appear offline' option

Unfortunately, as you can see, the PS3 does not fulfill all requirements.

I uhm...

Does this mean that you'd be on the verge of buying a PS3 if it had an appear offline option?  Certainly 3/5 of this list are non-debatable as part of the PS3.  Fourth bullet point is all personal preference, but I'd say there was at least as large an amount as on the 360 (and personally, I think there's a higher amount).

As for the final bullet point, it doesn't bother me so I can't comment on it, but didn't Jay find a way to appear-offline-but-be-online a few weeks back?  Just a thought.

Fortunately, I have history with all current gen gaming hardware, and a competent perspective of the past. I do feel somewhat embarrassed for those that have formed definitive opinions about consoles which they do not own.

God, I love these forums.

I probably would have bought a 360 if MS had kept up with the Japan push for a while longer, hard to keep myself from playing those exclusive JRPGs even if I was poor at the time. Thankfully I get some money from gamrReview now that basically pays for my hobby so I'll probably get every platform for the upcoming generation, but the 360 would probably be just for the odd XBLA exclusive unless MS makes another push for Japanese exclusives.
