Captain obvious attacks again

The way I look at the Vita is that it is actually the PS3 and more. It has a different backlog (last gen PSP games) but it has improved social functions for PSN, Party Chat (cross game chat), a better web browser, and apps. So really its better than a PS3 and can be carried and played by hand. The main drawback is the backlog, the PS3 catalog is nice, so is the PSP, but PSP is last gen.

The PS-Vita's price is a huge factor, primarily because people see value in hardware based on what it is not on what hardware it has inside of it. Had Sony envisioned it differently, and made a hybrid 7-inch tablet/PSP that ran Android and sold it for $250 it probably would have been seen as a better value.

Apple can sell all of the overpriced crap they want, that doesn't change the fact that the Vita is way, way too expensive.

The only hope for long term success with the Vita is not just an eventual price drop, but that it needs to be fully integrated with the PS4 whenever it's released. Without this connectivity and symbiotic relationship between handheld and console, the Vita is going to die a slow, agonizing death, because it simply cannot survive on its own in the handheld market.

$250 + the price of memory cards is a lot to ask for a console that mostly just plays watered down PS3 ports.

When extremely expensive Apple products sell yearly minor updates for huge prices and people buy it by the millions, I can't help but think this price argument is retarded. It's all about value. Pachter argues that it has amazing value yet even with the best value ever, having that price point makes some sort of magical barrier to consumers.

I think he's entirely wrong.
