Forums - Sales - Will Xenoblade (and other acclaimed Wii games) sell well into the Wii U's life?

There seem to be many people online who say they wouldn't buy a Wii, but really want to try out certain games. (The one I hear mentioned most is Xenoblade)

Since the Wii U is backwards compatible, will we see many Wii U owners buying games like Xenoblade?

I can't wait to play some backlog Wii games on the WiiU's controller screen for fun.

Some non-Nintendo gamers in the community seem interested in the WiiU. Since most don't want to set up their Wii, probs a few will be getting some of the Wii gems 2nd hand and playing them on their WiiU's.

Since the Wii is pretty much dead I understand people will wait for the Wii U to try those games, but it has to be a large library of games (from both Wii and Wii U) to make it a reasonable purchase of a new console.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Only time will tell. There's not a lot of people who want to buy a WiiU for some Wii games.

All I know is, The Last Story will be flop immensely when it comes to the West. The WiiU release will crush it. Ironically it'll be the last big game released on Wii for North America.

They may not want to get a Wii U PRIMARILY to play Wii games, but I'm sure there are people out there who would buy it for its own games, but wouldn't mind checking out some Wii games they missed while they're at it.

Did anyone even do this with the Wii and Gamecube games?

Based on my expeirence I would say yes, but Nintendo would have to offer those games digitally or at least continue to do some on going promotions of the backlog and they have to price those to value.

I never had any playstation before PS3, and since I bought the original, I bought and played some of the PS2 titles that I really wanted to but never got to play because previously only had Gamecube and XBox.

Once lost BC when my PS3 toasted and replacement didn't have that ability, I would still occasionally buy the PSOne or PS2 titles from PSN which would work on PS3. Also HD collections for games I never played are greatly appreciated by me.

I also skipped on PS-Portable because of confusion on which version to get once I got interested in enough software but then rumors of next gen version started and some of those games got ported to PS3 with HD versions.

Now that I have the PS-Vita, I have visited the back catalog of PS-Portable games. The key is availability and price of these older games. Availability is something that PSN does really well by offering digital version. The price can be more problematic because PSN sticks to MSRP prices but if some game can be part of a sales promotion or has PS+ discounts, it can end up being the right value for cost for me.

Exactly

Some Wii games will continue to sell well. Xenoblade will not be one of them. Games like DKCR, Brawl, Mario, Kirby, and Zelda could do decently (though to varying degrees). If Nintendo dropped Xenoblade to $30 and pushed it as a Nintendo Selects title this Holiday, it could get a nice boost, but it would probably still be overshadowed by all of the big releases.
