Forums - Sony - New PS3 models 16GB, 250GB, and 500GB plus rumored prices!

Conegamer said:
Seems pretty good actually! Wonder if people will actually respond to the new models and lowered price, because it's a bit late in the generation to be bringing out a new model, especially when your rival is releasing a new console at around the same time...

This would have, and should have, happened last year. The effect would have been much bigger than now, similar to the Wii price cut.

trust me, people will react. sony will announce proper prices at gamecom for all regions. the 1st week of the price cut will be MASSIVE.

Isn't that always the case?

But it's about a long-term effect, not short-term. If sales drop back to pre-cut levels within a month or two (like with the Wii), then it will have made no difference, but cost Sony a lot of money. With the system being over 5 years old, technology advancing quickly, sales dropping, a shift to more mobile gaming options and the WiiU, I feel as though this is more likely to happen than if a cut were to have happened this time last year. The increase initially may not have been quite as great, but it would have lasted far longer.

Now, when the release dates are confirmed, expect Nintendo to release the WiiU the week before

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Lol I love how a PS3 without an Harddrive is an great idea but the WiiU without an harddrive is horrible.

Big difference here. With these PS3s it is optional.

Surely since you can buy a HDD which works with the WiiU for the same price, it's the same?

I'm not saying it's a good idea. But it's an idea. And a lot of people who would be getting the PS3 now are likely gonna be people who are uninterested in 'hardcore' gaming, and, as such, won't care about the lack of space. Same with the WiiU.

Though, after all that rambling, they should release a WiiU with a 150GB HDD, let's say, for £30 more. But that's another thread.

Nope. It's not the same, you still need to buy a HDD for any Wii U whereas for PS3 and Xbox 360 you can get various sizes of storage, plain and simple :P

I can see what people are saying, maybe it works out as the same price for the vanilla models. But a lot of people buy bundles or deals, where prices are cut significantly and I don't think HDDs have as big an impact on pricing, effectively making them cheaper. And it's just more conveniant and gives the consumer options. I mean it's not a big deal, but I don't like it. It's like buying something that requires batteries but batteries aren't included (though it's a lot more inconveniant that that lol, because people generally don't have external HDDs lying around).

And a lot of people who would be getting the PS3 now are likely gonna be people who are uninterested in 'hardcore' gaming, and, as such, won't care about the lack of space. Same with the WiiU. Isn't Nintendo trying to attract the hardcore back with the Wii U? And you're forgetting about the hardcores that love Nintendo games and who'll buy it, 8gb is not enough for a digital-download friendly HD console, and if the Wii U isn't digital-download friendly then it better say goodbye to a lot of third party support.

I so called the $229 price. I would like some sort of praise from the Gamrconnect community.

Awesome!!!

And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

its not always the case. when sony cut off $50 last year, most of us knew it would impact sales over time and not straight away. a bigger price cut/remodel combo will not only help sales in the long run (2013) but will also give big boosts straight away. also dont forget, this is the first time ps3 is under $200. never underestimate that.

I'm sick and tired of the Hd fans claiming Nintendo is after the hardcore without anything to back it up. How is revealing Mario, Wii Fit, Nintendoland(which they want to be the next Wii Sports) and a bunch of multiplats targeting the hardcore. Like I said before it's just people wanna believe Nintendo was in the wrong but numbers don't lie and as long as that blue line is the tallest, Nintendo proved they were right. For the poster that mentioned cloud storage, you realize the WiiU hasn't launched on top of that Nintendo hasn't even revealed shit about its storage and the PS3 needs storage due to its plenty of games needing to be downloaded.

So your one of those people that believe everything Nintendo says lol. No wonder why you've been tricked so easily. What were they suppose to say, "No we don't like the hardcore" lol. LIke i said show me some concrete proof like you know GAMES. Think hard this time. The Wii recieved a couple of multiplats so it must have appealed to the hardcore as well then lol.

Urgh. Jesus dude, do you have to be so unpleasant?

The point is Nintendo have said they're after the hardcore, they've compared themselvs to the competition and they've said they want/are going to be close or so that far from Orbis/Durango technically whilst also saying they don't compare themselves to other companies or care about "what kind of 'more beef' console Microsoft and Sony produce"etc. and that's why people are pointing out the somewhat contradictory or hypocritical comments made by Nintendo about the Wii U.

Sorry bud, you're right that was unpleasant for no reason at all.

I have been an NIntendo for ages, I know when their just marketing. Thats why theyre statements are so stupid, mainly its because they want the expanded audience, nintendo core, and a share of the hardcore. Nintendo isn't stupid enough to actually target the hardcore, they still want the expanded audience all to themselves, thats why mario, wii fit, just dance, nintendoland are all launched within the WiiUs launch window. The hardcore fanbase NIntendo wants are the ones that don't care about the games made by Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo knows that fanbase is not loyal and they will go where the games go. Look at how the XBox stole so much of Sony's fanbase. That headstart, cheaper price, and 3rd party multiplats did the trick. Look at how NIntendo just did the Vita, Nintendo wants too set the WiiU up like the PS2 was to the PS1. By releasing first it allows the WiiU to be cheaper and build an fanbase before the PS4 and 720 release. Ofcourse NIntendo still has work to do like gather the other very important 3rd party games(GTAV).
