Forums - Gaming - I have to many unplayed games? Can't play them because there is to much to chose from

I use to be like this back when I had more money then time, so every time I'd go to Wal-mart or any video game store and seen a good deal on a game I wanted to play I'd buy it. So soon as I got home I put the game in my collection and let it sit. I finally got some time and caught up big time (replayed FFIX, been wanting to do this for years!), played the shit out of Skyrim almost 200+ hours.

Now I have more time then money so I can catch up :)

Wal-Mart rarely has any good deals on video games execpt for Black Friday and even then other store usually have deals that are just as good and sometimes better, plus other stores usually have smaller crowds.  Year around Best Buy and Target have usually better deals.  Gamestores have good deals once in a while on used stuff but the best bargains on used games are usually in pawn shops where people have no clue on how to price their games plus you can haggle for a lower price.  And of course you have online where amazon usually has the best deals on new items and ebay is pretty good for used stuff and if you don't mind picking it up yourself you can find cheap used stuff on craigslist.

This may seem like heresy but if the presence of a profusion of games in preventing you from focusing, then you should trade a bunch of them in. Generally I'd start with older games or titles that got bad to mixed reviews. You can use the money to pre-order games you're really jazzed about. If you've played some games in a series then you should try to finish it off and play any sequels.

This is why I stopped modding systems.

I say start at the games which interest you most. I also have a lot of games to catch up on, but I prioritize. I beat XenoBlade and am nearly done The Last Story, and then I plan to move to Mass Effect 3 next. I've been in a RPG craze, so I'll likely pick up FallOut: New Vegas and beat that too, then play finish Tales of Vesperia and Fire Emblem (Wii). After that I dunno, If Halo 4, Metal Gear Rising, or Resident Evil 6 go on sale, then maybe I'll pick up a copy, otherwise I'll work on whatever games I have left for my systems and work my way down from the best games I have yet to beat. Zelda: Skyward Sword, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, and Infinite Undiscovry will by 2012 projects, and after that I might start.....anyway, enough ranting.

If you have trouble sticking to a single game, play something short. Go beat Metroid: Other M, or something, just so you can have a finished game under your belt, then tackle something longer, and more interesting to you. Maybe have a game like Halo or Bayonetta on the side, something you can pick up anytime and enjoy, so you have something to play when you're not in the mood to sit down for hours at a time.

  • Dead Space:  Made it to the asteroid section last night.  Had it for three years but I'm finally playing it.
  • Devil May Cry 4: Got it for $10 or something (same day as Dead Space).  Played it for about two hours.
  • Final Fantasy XIII-2: Got it the day it released.  Have no idea what the fuck is going on. Still bought the DLC.  WIll beat is someday.
  • inFamous:  Got it the week it came out.  Got bored with it but I'll force myself to beat it.
  • Nier:  Got it for $10 about a year ago.  Was having fun but then I stopped playing it.
  • No More Heroes Paradise:  Hated every other version of this game so I bought it on day one and I hate it.
  • Prince of Persia (2008): A Christmas gift from '08.  I need to finish it.
  • A lot of downloaded titles but I'm not gonna turn on my PS3 right now.

Wii:

  • Kirby's Epic Yarn:  Played the tutorial and liked it.  Never played it again.
  • No More Heroes:  Heard it was a great game.  Bought it and hated it.
  • No More Heroes 2:  Enjoyed the original so much that I bought the sequel and hated it.
  • Obscure:  It was $20 and I always buy a 2nd game when I buy a game.  Barely played it.
  • Red Steel:  I got pretty far into it before I put it on the shelf for years.
  • Silent Hill Shattered Memories:  A great game but I keep putting it off.
  • Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam:  It was $5 so I grabbed it.  Played it for five minutes to see if it worked.

  • Endless Ocean:  Bought it to play when I was really bored.  I never got bored.
  • Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2:  Never even played it.
  • Battalion Wars 2:  I don't even remember buying this game!

  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus:  Fun game but I had to finish Uncharted.
  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3:  I didn't even want this game when I  bought it.  So why did I buy it?

  • Ace Combat 6:  Great game overshadowed by better games.

  • Blue Dragon:  Had it for years.  Was having fun with it but then got sidetracked.
  • Bully:  Haven't played it once.  My kid beat it, though.  Looked like a ton of fun.

  • Episode From Liberty City:  Couldn't bring myself to play these two.
  • Halo ODST:  After I finish Halo 2 (currently playing), I'll play it.
  • Infinite Undiscovery:  Really liked this game.  Got to disc 2 and now I don't know where the fuck to go.  Needs a better map.
  • LA Noire:  A day one purchase.  My biggest disappointmen, ever.
  • Ninety Nine Nights:  It was $5!  I had no choice but to buy it.
  • Ninja Gaiden 2:  Was fun and only cost $5.  Unfortunately, I bought NINE other games that day.  Thanks, Movie Gallery!!

  • Rayman Origins:  I don't even know why we stopped playing this one.  Should fire it up today.

  • Silent Hill Homecoming:  I think I almost beat it but it was a chore to play.
  • Soul Calibur 4:  Loved the earlier games but I barely played this one--AND I bought all of the DLC.  I'm crazy.
  • SSX:  Day one purchase AND I bought all of the DLC.  Played the tutorial.
  • Star Ocean 3:  Got it with a Gamestop gift card.  I really want to play it someday.
  • Dance Central 2:  We played the first one like the world was coming to an end. Why didn't we play this one as much?  I even bought a soundbar for my livingroom TV just for this game!!
  • Child of Eden:  I was having fun with this one but then I just stopped playing it.
  • Perfect Dark Zero:  This game is a lot of fun, actually.  I only play it co-op, though.  When my partner (PrincessNYA420) wants to play, we'll play it again.  We're on mission 4.
  • Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands:  The only PoP game that I didn't own.  Got it for $5 from XBLA
  • I have probably 100 (or more!) XBLA games.  I probably beat a third of them.
  • There's a ton of other 360 games in my closet but I didn't have room for them on my shelf anymore.  Hell, most of the games in this list aren't even on the shelf right now.  Off the top of my head, NBA Street, Tenchu Z, and Ninja Blade are resting safely and barely touched in my closet.
  • *edit* Add Max Payne and WWE 12 to the list.  Two day one purchases that were really good but somehow got pushed to the side.

Okay.  I DO play a lot of games and I do beat a lot of games but I've bought waaaaay more than I could ever play.  Sometimes, I want to play a game and I don't play anything because I don't even know where to start.  On top of that, games like Resident Evil 4 and 5, Gears of War, and the Batman Arkham titles get multiple playthroughs (like five or more) while other games don't even get a second glance.  And that's just the way it is.

Going to cross out games I suggest selling asap, and bolding games you should play asap.

Honestly, I suggest picking up Infinite Undiscovery and looking at a walkthrough. When you get unstuck, you might find yourself addicted again. Vanquish is also amazing, and it's short, so you get the reward of beating an excellent game, without much time and effort (that is, unless you wish to beat challenge mode and get 1,000/1,000). InFamous is also an amazing game, but if you hate it, then you might just ignore this tip.

P.S. No DS games?

For Wii I suggest going to the store and buying XenoBlade and The Last Story. The Last Story is short and sweet, but XenoBlade gives you more value for the $$$.

you could stop buying so many games. I personally only have one game at the moment and plan on only buying a couple more this year. When I used to buy games all the time,I never finished half of them. Now,since that I cut back on games,I want finish what games I have.

Systematically rate your interest in your games on a scale from one to ten or something like that then simply go from the top rated games down. Assigning a number will help you realize where your interests truly are. Ask yourself which games you would finish first if you had to hypothetically get rid of all of them. In this manner as your backlog grows you should at least be managing to play your higher priority games.

If you resell your games keep an eye on which games have better resell value and try to play those while you can still sell them for a decent amount.

How do you breathe again?
