We've all spent compulsively but truth is truth and Steams sale is unbeatable. It makes Xbox Live and PSN Summer sales look severely lacking.

How does Valve do it? How come Sony and Microsoft don't have sales as amazing as this?

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

I personally think it's because most publishers make their money back at full price console sales.  These Steam sales are just extra on top.  A quick few millions in their pockets.  I don't think they'd publishers will be able to make money if Sony and Microsoft had these crazy sales.

you just gotta look for the sales for xbox.... I got ssx, batman arkam city, kingdoms of amalur $10 each. PC will always be cheaper because its cheaper to publish on PC. but when you factor in the cost of other stuff it evens out pretty well.

Yes, but how often will this type of issue crop up? There's a trade off I feel, consoles sometimes break and you have to replace it - hassle. They don't always run games as smoothly as their PC cousins - another hassle. Console titles are also MUCH more expensive a lot of the time, yep, hassle #3.

Goes both ways, but I agree having both as an option is the way to go. P.S. - I look forward to technical tweaking of my PC titles!

Well, what I most commonly run into, is that games run pretty flawlessly at 1600x900. But I want them to run at 1080p and still push 60fps, therefore I tend to spend a lot of time tweaking settings, and not all games have the settings available that you need to tweak. But in most cases, with some help from others and some trial and error, I can generally get a game to run and look the way I want. Most of this is due to the i5 I have. If you have a decent quad core CPU and a good Nvidia or AMD GPU, you'll be able to run most games on the highest settings without much effort on your part. But if you want to run all the fancy Dx11 options, then you definitely want to do some research to make sure you can power that stuff.

In general games are cheaper on PC, but you have publishers like EA and Activision who charge $60 for their titles. Max Payne 3 was $60 too. There are more opportunities to get the games you want at cheaper prices on PC, but if you want a title day 1, it may cost the same whether for console or PC.

And as far as games running smoothly, it really took some time playing on PC to make me realize just how well console games do perform. They are incredibly well optimized and it took some time away from the consoles for me to see that.

It sounds like I'm arguing in favor of one, but I'm not. PC gaming is an incredibly deep and varied experience, it's amazing. But the consoles still hold their own.

I'm not arguing that consoles don't hold their own, I said both have their ups and downs.

I understand that you weren't arguing, I was just trying to give my opinon based upon my limited understanding of being a newbie PC gamer

Yeah I own hundreds of titles on Steam. This summer sale, I've spent less than $90 and I've gotten:

-Skyrim
-Fallout 3 GotY
-Fallout New Vegas Ultimate
-BRINK
-Hunted
-Arkham Asylum GotY
-Arkham City
-Gotham City Imposters
-Sonic Generations
-Terraria

and that was without even caring that much to be careful to get the best deals.

Welcome to the dark side. Now add me on steam (shakarak). Steam is quite amazing, and I couldn't see myself really going back to console gaming (besides my wii).

Well, if Valve makes a console with Apple......then you can just download them directly to your console.

Steam is awesome, but to be fair you can sell your hardcopy games for nearly the same price you paid. I like to own hard copies of games I like, especially Nintendo franchise games because those games are fun to play even when they are old.

Anyone owns a PS3, PC and Wii has the best of everything...period!!
PS3 and Wii for it quality Consoles exclusives and some multiplaform while PC for it multiplaform and some exclusives.

Now I need a PSVita for on the go gaming... >_>

It depends on what you like, but I kinda agree. Except DS/3DS are much better handhelds then PSP and PSV. I have like 8 PSP games and I'm not interested in anymore, meanwhile I have over 20 DS games and I don't have more because I don't have time to play them.

Also if Windows 8 plays MS brand console games then....you don't need a MS console anymore. 360 is still nice because for $130 (the price of a 4GB 360 on sale, which is common), it's nice to have Halo, Forza, Gears of War, Alan Wake, Lost Odyssey, etc.

However a Wii/PS3/PC/DS combo....Killer!

Wait a sec, I'm looking at these Steam Sales and they aren't all that crazy. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Revelation now cost $18, I bought both my copies for $30 last christmas, paid only $10 for Brotherhood.

Deus Ex is $18 at EB games, and the same on Steam (but you save on the DLC).

Fallout NV: GOTY Ed is $30 at Best Buy, and only recently $24 on Steam. I think this game will drop to $20 soon as well.

It's the old titles that are cheap on Steam, EB games and such don't normally sell games for under $10 unless it's a bizarre promotion, but on Steam....

Anyway, Steam is awesome.

That's because the games you are looking at aren't in a daily deal.

Deus Ex may be 75% off in a few hours.
