I actually think its the other way around, even though IMO sony is much stronger in terms of core gaming, it is in a disadvantage compared to MS in terms of the next gen console, they need to get a jump start on MS to have a chance.

Sony needs to launch their next console first, but as far as supporting their consoles with first party Microsoft needs to cut off the 360 now. Outside of Halo and Gears they are making millions selling empty casual products. Then again this has proven quality is not what always sells.

Around the Network

DVD argument is quite stupid, BUT what you might not know tho is MS do charge a higher royalty to publishers if they use more than 2 disks on a game, so publishers do very much think hard about going above 2.

Which does make sense cos if MS are having to press 3 disks for your game, they could be printing 3 copies of someone else's game in that time.

But DVD is not the cause for a new generation, the cause is 1 of them has made there move, so the others must follow soon after or risk losing market share.

Where of course, "quality" is defined by what YOU like, right?

If you look closely at the pattern of what sells in terms of so-called "casual" products, you'll find that a few sell exceptionally well, and everything else fails pretty much completely. Have you ever stopped to think that maybe certain products have "quality", but that most people define "quality" in video gaming differently from how the typical enthusiast gamer does?

Anyway, you don't seem to have justified either part of your argument. Why does Sony need to launch theirs first? Why does MS need to cut the 360 off now, if they're "making millions selling empty casual products" and selling Halo and Gears well?

To be honest the only thing that limits the 360 is the sole fact that all games have to be played on systems without hard drives. If MS would just man up and put at least 20GB of space on the systems then developers would be flex out the system.
