Forums - Gaming - Resident Evil 6 Uses Regenerating Health And Will Be Two Disks On 360

Finding out that there was a Resident Evil 6 demo released today made me more excited than I've been for almost any preview build in the past couple years. That was until I played it, anyway.

After playing the demo for a few minutes I couldn't help but notice that it felt an awful like Call of Duty. It wasn't necessarily the focus on action or the massive, non-stop explosions, either. It had a lot more to do with the regenerating health that I found myself abusing. That's right, Resident Evil 6 features health regeneration that essentially encourages you to camp behind cover before engaging each new pack of enemies. On the plus side, it's a good opportunity to grab a handful of Chex Mix.

Is it really survival horror? I am yet to see anything genuinely scary in Resident Evil 6, and you'd think the realistic graphics would offer up one heck of an chance for scares.

For the record, I have been extremely disappointed in survival horror lately with only Amnesia: The Dark Descent and the Dead Space series to lean to. Where's the Resident Evil that I grew up on? Oh, and don't even get me started with Silent Hill.

Sorry Capcom, this might be a really good action game but it certainly isn't survival horror.

Revelations was a pretty good survival horror. Resident Evil 6 does look pretty good either way, though. I'm not really going to be able to get it though.

Thanks for the headsup. Now I have no interest in this title whatsoever.

Looks to be a fairly large game then. But I probably will not get it if it is like Call of Duty.

The impressions have been dreadful so far. They still have time to fix things. I hope they do.

:/

I figured Revelations was a hint that they were thinking more dynamically, taking the elements of 4 & 5 that worked but wrapping them back in something more resembling the older series.

By definition, you are not a survival game if you have regenerating health.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

It's all in the context of the game though. The modern iterations of RE are so far removed from the originals that finding the equivalent of med kits in the form of herbs and sprays doesn't make much sense.

Especially when you consider the fact that in the originals you were only dealing with maybe a handful of enemies at one time or a scripted event like a hunter or dogs or whatever popping out at you, whereas the modern iterations from 4 and on (and especially the most recent two), you are facing off with wave after wave of enemies, so the slow paced stop-draw gun-aim-shoot gameplay has become obsolete, necessitating the regenerative health aspect in order to level the playing field and keep the action going.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Yes, but the question must be asked about why the game has drifted so far in that direction. You don't need to be fighting hordes of enemies at a time, who said it had to be that way? The story?

Well ive played leons and jakes parts of the demo and I liked them both a nice bit. The leon parts at sometimes felt like an advanced re4 and sometimes something very different. the Jake section handled similarly just more sped up.

Well I think it all started when Capcom decided to shake things up a bit for the 4th installment to keep things fresh.  After Code Veronica, you had the REmake on GC which was awesome of course, but RE0 was underwhelming, then the mediocre gun survivor games, Dead Aim, Outbreak etc.  So when both fans and critics responded really well to RE4's more action focused (but still sticking to its survival roots) gameplay, I guess Capcom just decided that thats what most gamers wanted of the series.
