Hence why he turned it into a tax. Congress has the power to tax.

Indeed they do, which is hilarious since President Obama got snippy with reporters when they asked him if the new health care laws would ammount to a tax.  Surprise! They do.

Did you guys like the recession?  Hope so, because that shit is coming back.

Paying a little more taxes (the uninsured), how does that equal recession pt 2?

Uninsured healthcare is one of the number one expenses that Americans find themselves in today, SIMPLY so that they CAN work. Then, people who are uninsured cause my preiums to go up. This saves me, a hardworking, responsible citizen money, and keeps those other workers working instead of staying home sick or disabled.

I actually will pay less in premiums this year, and I will be buying more along with it. Am I wrong about this?

Hard to say.  The government is betting on prices to be driven down in an industry with a profit margin around 2-3% while putting in added protection for phaermecutical companies.

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/2009/performers/industries/profits/

I don't see prices being dropped that much to be honest with you.

Trying to target healthcare savings from people through insurance companies is like trying to get blood from a stone.

They also say healthy people are going to be forced into the sysem.  Which generall means, that somethig like 80-90% of the uninsured are healthy, otherwise there is no way for them to drive down costs, while simaltaniously the sick who are raising costs are driving them up.

Which means the individual "sick" people will cause individual insureres rates to rise much higher, and it'll be a see saw going frm provider to provider, probably drivign some out of buisness... so if anything i'd try to have an EXPENSIVE brozne plan to keep the poor (and likely sickest) off my plan.

The Swiss were mentioned earlier as having  a similar plan... there's only works because of it's high deductables and strict medical regulation guidelines.

I do think it's quite an exaggeration that an ineffectual healthcare reform is going to cause a recession.

The real problem is the precedent. They can force you to buy health insurance; why not American cars? Government bonds? Anything else?

They already do this, in a way. Specifically with the Volt. Each Chevy Volt can have as much as $250,000 in subsidies in it all told. All because we won't buy enough of the damned things on our own.

Don't forget that used to also get a tax break for buying a Hybrid.

Thanks to Bush.

I'd call it more corporatism, but the two do seem pretty highly linked.

Bush was really a lot more "liberal" then people realize.

I mean, No Child Left Behind was the kind of thing previous republicans would of used as scare tactics about what the Department of education COULD be used for.

Bush and Obama are really a lot more indistinguishible from one another than most people in either party are willing to admit.

Preaching to the choir on that one.

I mean, outside of stem cell research I can't think of a Bush position Obama has willingly moved off of.

That would be the funny thing about Romney, if he gets elected, functionally he might end up more leftwing the Obama!  Depending on how he handles national security.

A funny comparison.

And by funny i of course mean disapointing and horrifying.
