The real problem is the precedent. They can force you to buy health insurance; why not American cars? Government bonds? Anything else?

They already do this, in a way. Specifically with the Volt. Each Chevy Volt can have as much as $250,000 in subsidies in it all told. All because we won't buy enough of the damned things on our own.

Don't forget that used to also get a tax break for buying a Hybrid.

I'd call it more corporatism, but the two do seem pretty highly linked.
Bush was really a lot more "liberal" then people realize.
I mean, No Child Left Behind was the kind of thing previous republicans would of used as scare tactics about what the Department of education COULD be used for.
