Forums - Gaming - Cliff Bleszinski: "Games Have Become More Linear and Easier"

who cares if games are easier these days? some people just want to get through the game as quickly as possible and move to the next game, unless your just consumed by the world. If you want a challenge, just play on nothing but the hardest difficulty level. Some people just don't have time for a challenging game.

yeah but that is one problem, the hardest difficulty is many times only playable if you played throug the game on a lower difficulty. i hate it, if i want to play the games as hard as possible please developer let me play it like this and don't say me i first have to play it on a boring difficulty.

i have absolutely no problem if a game has a super super easy mode if i can play it on utra hard as well but not "play it on normal and you get hard, play it on hard and you get the extreme difficulty" wtf?

Funny thing is, 90% of the E3 games this year were copying the Uncharted formula with linear and dramatic set pieces. Gears of War: judgement being a main contender for it.

lol isn't gears basically roll, snap to cover, shoot and repeat?

uncharted had done it fair sharing of copying so dont be acting like it is original

isn't that exactly why he said they will change some stuff now, like cranking up the difficulty and other things like the spawn system? i believe that's what he is trying to tell us, the next gears will be more challenging except for the easy difficulty and we will see more possible ways to play it. he said something like:

"i played gears from the beginning and still, i really have to concentrate now playing the new gears"

which means

"the next gears will be much better as what i expect from games as the other gears were"

How many of you have actually read the article?

http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6380736/ An E3 interview that touches on the same topic/s and a little more.

Back in the day when games where games and men where true.... fuck this shit.
Gaming is perfect right now OK the Sequelitis is a problem but everything else is better then ever. 10 year ago games like Diablo 2 Doom and Quake where considered the greatest ever if you would publish a game like this today people would laugh about it they would be mediocre at best. One of the most Linear games ever is Super Mario. Maybe games are easier as they where in the 90s, but don´t forget gaming is not a sport or some kind competition people play games to relax not to exhaust and frustrate themselves, and almost every game has different difficulty levels.

Diablo 2, Warcraft 3 Quake, CS, and Unreal Tournament absolutely destroy the current generation of games in replayability, fun factor, balance, and other stuff.

This gen (mostly HD consoles) is only the best if you don't like gameplay.

I LOVE ICELAND!

If only more games were as open ended and difficult as SMB and Duck Hunt.

He's just trying to appeal to delusional nostalgic 'core' gamers that believe only this generation was saturated by easy, linear games. Practically every generation had them. The bloke has no personality, he's just a sheep that seeks to appease gamers, one hypocritical statement at a time.
