Forums - Gaming - Sony: Why Vita gives us an advantage over Wii U

So the advantage is that the processing is split between two consoles?

Hey guys, the GameBoy Advance has an advantage over Wii U, too! Time to bust out those old GBA/GCN adapters!

you know Sony, your making it hard for me to go on about how you don't give a shit about worthless gimmicks when you continue to give a shit about worthless gimmicks...

Nintendo has been trying the home console and handheld connectivity thing for quite some time now. Consumers are not interested. The only way to make it work is to provide everything with the initial purchase.

^ Haha. I'll admit that's some impressive spin though from Rohde to make the PS3/Vita's weakness sound like an advantage.

Who knows, maybe they will do some interesting things with it that the Wii U can't do. But the Wii U can also do things the PS3/Vita can't do, and it's built into a single package.

Sparta! The Vita is a separate console that costs quite a lot!

Buy a PS3, get a free Vita. Problem solved.

I don't think there's a deal like that? And even if wouldn't Sony lose a BUNCH of money?

Sony doesn't mind losing a few bucks and give its fans what they like.

Ha! SO true actually, selling ps3 at a loss in the early years, I suppose we can expect something like that, valid point browskie!

So far I think I'm the first person with a Vita to respond.

Obviously the PS Vita PS3 combo is on paper better than the Wii U. That won't matter though because like usual Sony will fail to deliver. If anything the Wii U getting support from third parties will actually help Sony. Just like with Move first party support for this feature will drie up fast. Unlike with Move though games on the Wii U will have a better chance at getting ported over.

The fact of the matter is Sony is correct in stating the PS Vita PS3 combo is a stronger beast. The other fact is it will be starved with nothing to eat but Nintendo's scraps.

The Vita's impressive horsepower gives Sony an important advantage over the Wii U and its tablet controller, so says Sony Worldwide Studios VP Scott Rohde.

Speaking in an E3 interview with GamesIndustry International, Rohde argued that Vita-to-PS3 connectivity inherently holds more potential than the Wii U's dual-screen offering as both Sony systems boast their own processor.

"That Wii U tablet doesn't have a processor in it, so it's got to be fueled by that box sitting under your TV," he said.

Does this guy actually know what he's talking about?  According to the pre-E3 show, the GamePad acts as a fully independent TV remote control with touchscreen.  It doesn't strike me as a device without a processor, and it seems easier to implement the connectivity we've seen using a processor and rudimentary OS.  I'd expect it to have at least the CPU power of a DSi (those ancient ARM processors must be dirt cheap to produce).

It is confirmed that it is a streaming device. It's output comes from the Wii U console not the game pad itself.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
