Because their were some silly people creating threads and demanding why their is no chart on vgchartz for the UK only because Japan and UK are almost the same size...

Yeah indeed, if the average spending in UK was not abnormal high compared to other European countries, UK would be even ranked lower.

I don't understand this point - it's the higher spending that puts the UK higher on the list, so of course if the spending was lower then it would be lower on the chart

Now exclude handhelds and you get the point. Japan is basically handheld only these days.

Last week 110.701 systems were sold, 88040 were handhelds.
In the UK there were 35.083 systems sold and 20978 were consoles.

For consoles and spending on consoles, UK is about as big as Japan, which is pretty good if you think about the population. There is a reason why Japanese game developers are having a hard time these days.

Some of the numbers are incorrect.  For example the one from Canada isn't for video game sales it's for the amount brought in by the video game industry in terms of salaries, etc. 

*Just checked South Korea number since it seemed amazingly high for its population and that number is incorrect as well at least based on the source they have given (which talked about the entire entertainment industry and exports and not the specific video game industry).

could UK maybe a bit skewed? I know lot of people including myself who import their games from the uk to their country in europe.. UK prices are a lot cheaper then mainland europe..

I import mines from the US. Same reason, cheaper.

Well this year even in units Japanese market is far ahead as gaming market in UK has pretty much crashed (12,075,878 vs 19,262,000 units).
