It's been few months since it came out and this time of the year is known to have drought in video game industry. Why not give it a holiday then put it in the bin of failure.

It's had a holiday. Infact, it LAUNCHED mid-holiday, and it still never beat the 3DS (I believe after launch week the 3DS was outselling it 5:1 or more)?

As such, doesn't fill you with hope...

yeah, according to Media Create, the Vita has never once surpassed the 3DS in regards to weekly sales, not even launch week (which iirc coincided with MH3G release).  This charts shows the dire state of Vita sales, especially considering that it Japan it was coming off the back of a very successful platform both in hardware and software sales: http://i.imgur.com/QVLS5.png

I love the PSP and thought that it's successor would be similar.  However, I can help feeling that the 3DS has taken the place of the DS and the PSP.  I really hope the PSV situation improves, it doesn't deserve this.

In other words. My predictions were pretty close.

It's like Xbox vs PS2.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Like a lot of other people I was expecting a Vita price cut to be announced at E3.  Considering the current situation the handheld finds itself in it just seemed like the smart and obvious thing to do.  Of course they could still surprise us since we're still a few months away from the crucial holiday quarter but considering their statements of late it's looking unlikely that Sony will be throwing out that kind of life preserver.

I'm sure there are people eager to reply about the big games coming out for the system later this year but in my opinion that's the reason I think it will die without a price cut.  There will be an incredible amount riding on the sales of these big games since they will likely decide the future support of the system as a home for good third party support or a bleak wasteland with just the occasional bone thrown to it by Sony.

Without the price cut I think we'll see these games make no real impact at all in North America and quickly fall off the charts in Europe without even opening to numbers comparable to big third party console games.  This will lead to the third parties now supporting the system to end any real development outside of rare cheap ports and those thinking of jumping on board deciding the risk is too great.

As for a pricecut in 2013, it will probably be too late by then and will be akin to closing the barn door after the horse has bolted.  It won't erase what happens this year and it will be even harder or impossible to get skeptical third parties back on board, especially those burned by Vita in 2012.

Of course the Vita games will sell nowhere near the console versions. lmfao. Vita is not even a year old yet while PS3 and 360 are on their 6th and 7th years.

Vita won't die. Sony will keep supporting it no matter how low sales get. Hell even if 3rd party support is completely dropped(never gonna happen though) it could survive purely on Playstation Mobile.

Well take a look at the recent releases in japan. The ratio of PSP to Vita games is like 90/10.

PSP is getting games, Vita isn't.

About your 3DS comparision, it has Mario and Monster Hunter...........PSP was so successful because of Monster Hunter which Vita doesn't have yet. I expect an announcement at TGS.

The PSP launched at 250$ and was considered a success, but that's because of the teenagers. Now teens and young adults have smartphones and tablets and the only people buying handhelds outside of Japan are the small hardcore crowd and little kids whose parents haven't gotten them an iPhone yet. Sony needs to either start marketing towards a younger crowd, or make teenagers think the Vita is cooler than an iPad. Sadly to do that, Sony will actually have to use marketing and I think they hate that.

Well compared to the DS, the PSP isn't really a success. A lot of the success of the PSP in the early years it owes to the PS2.

"A PS2 in your pocket" is what they marketed it as.

In 13 days we'll know more about that than at TGS, imo - Capcom Summer Jam is June 30th. I was sure Sony would re-money-hat Capcom (I mean, they had too) but now I'm not so sure.

A PSP port would do a monstrous quantity of money, but not even that Capcom is supposedly doing - Nintendo's money hat looks colosssal, TBH.

Capcom support for Vita so far is negligible. They even did what was impossible to think... a 3DS/PS3 multi plat game...

Vita is facing an identiity crisis. The type of games on the platform simply make more sense on a big screen HD set with surround sound, not on a handheld gaming console with a 5 inch screen. The other issue is there simply aren't that many notable games for the platform right now. It needs another hit like Monster Hunter was in Japan, then sales could take off without even the need for a price cut. But until then, you need to provde strong compelling reasons to get people to buy your machine, especially one that costs $250, and Sony to this point hasn't really done that.

Interesting graph which also shows that the 3DS only fell below 9k the once, price-drop week. Goes to show really, that the 3DS was in a much better position now than the Vita is if we align-launches.

TGS will make-or-break the Vita. And, if MH4 comes out this holiday (November), then that+ WiiU will mean the Vita won't get a look-in.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It could die.....so I'm doing my best to enjoy it while it's here. Having a blast, too!
