Forums - Gaming - Gravity Rush scandal review creates a bigger shitstorm than Zelda

Why do you think Gravity Rush is good?

Coz its from Sony Japan Studios 47 29.19%

Coz it looks really good 89 55.28%

Coz it has great reviews on Meta 22 13.66%

Total:158

I used to care about reviews, than I took a kid icarus uprising to the knee. All reviews focus on the small nitpicky aspects rather than the good of the game. Gravity rush is a great game that I am thoroughly enjoying.

It was a horrid review from a horrid site, but a number of other sites (Metro, Destructoid, GiantBomb) also gave it a similar score:

Seems to split opinion. Expect more middling scores like this in the future.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Carolyn, the reviewer, is one the worst reviewers I've seen. She reviews most of the games that I like and gives them horrible scores. I've stopped paying attention to her reviews. She seems like one of those bitter critics who hates anything (apart from blockbusters like Assassin's Creed).

Just wondering though. All of you who are talking about the grading scale and saying that a 6,5 is fine for Gravity Rush, have you actually played the game? Cuz if you haven't, I guess I could say the same about Halo, Gears, Mario Kart etc.

Is she a she? I heard she's transgender or something

Spot on.  I've found this with so many reviews.  And the problem is made worse when some review sites have it in their head that the game is just fantastic (Call of Duty games spring to mind) and almost exclusively ignore the flaws of the game just so they can give it a high score).

The problem I have with this Gamespot review, among other things, is just the inconsistency of it.  If their review scores were on a scale where 5 is an average game, 7 is an above average game, 9 is a nearly flawless game, then it would be fine.  That's not really the case though, I find their review scores just as inflated as any other site (like IGN).  Honestly, I think Edge are the best at giving a fair 1-10 review scale, but they are just as nitpicky as all the other sites which makes me not pay much attention to them either.

Also, for something like Gravity Rush, you really have to question what's more important when reviewing games.  I mean, GR is a brand new take on a lot of different mechanics.  It's a mish-mash of a number of different ideas, and for the most part I'm led to believe that it pulls them off in stunning fashion.  What makes this game less impressive than FPS sequel #5 which slightly polishes a formula we've been seeing for 6 years now.

Oh well.  I hope GR gets decent sales because it certainly deserves them.

If the game is imperfect a 6.5 is an above average score. The only reason people get upset about 6s and 7s is they think a 10 point scale is like a grade school A,B,C,D,F. It's not. 5 would be a mediocre game, 6 would be better than average, 7 would be good, 8 would be great, 9 would be stellar, 10 would be an extremely rare perfect game with no flaws. Everything below 5 would be different shades of suck, but anything above 5 would be worth playing depending on a persons tastes.

Zelda SS is a 7 in my opinion. Gravity Rush is probably a legitimate 6. People need to stop getting all worked about about meta scores and .5s. And most of all the vast majority of gaming review websites need to use their entire 10 point grading system instead of just the top and bottom three numbers. It drives me crazy that truly shit games get 1-3 and mediocre to amazing games get 7-9 when the majority of games are really 4-6. There are so few perfect 10s that it should be shocking when a game scores it. The only game I've played in the last decade that I'd consider a 10 would be Portal 2 and that's because I prefer shorter games that can be enjoyed in small sessions.

I highly doubt Gravity Rush is the as good as Portal 2, but it also looks better than your average bargain bin game so 6.5 seems about right to me.

Seriously, you criticise people because they get worked up about meta scores and yet you do much worse, you talk shit about games you know nothing about. This is a much bigger problem. Gravity Rush was one of the best handheld games I've ever played and pretty much every people that played the game agree with that.

Gamespot - Nintendo fanboys

Gametrailers - Microsoft fanboys

IGN - Sony fanboys

AMIDOINITRITE?

Nope Gametrailers used to be Microsoft fanboys, but they changed it. I guess to satisfy most of their userbase. They're Sony fanboys now.

They just gave Gravity Rush a 6.5 and the review already has 600 comments lol.

When they gave Zelda a 7.5 every Nintendo fan felt like GameSpot insulted them personally. That scandal Zelda Skyward Sword review has only 160 comments.

I guess gamespot doesnt like new fresh original games? What do you guys think, has Gamespot lost touch with reality or are they trying to be harsh like Edge? But even they gave it a 8/10.

No, GameSpot didn't have a comments system on their reviews until after SS released that's why the oldest comments on the SS review are 6 months old not 7. This Gravity Rush review isn't creating a bigger "shitstorm" than the Zelda review. Also, I'm looking at the GR review right now and there's only 550 comments not 600.

They give below average scores to some good games such as Star Ocean and Persona for the PSP.

Perhaps they need gamers that actually like Japanese games on their staff then....

same could be said for famitsu needing gamers that actually like western games on their staff

Didn't Famitsu give the buggy as hell PS3 version of Skyrim a 40/40?  That is far more than I think it deserves.

Sony fans freaking out for that above average game? lol

but LOL @ Zelda is a 7 and this gravity wathever a 6...

The day I lost faith in reviews was when Resident Evil: Revelations got a 6/10 from EDGE, the same score they gave Tekken 3D Prime. I'm still in shock. Concerning Gravity Rush, I'm only past Chapter 6 but I would give it a solid 8. Same with Skyward btw. So I think 6.5 and 7.5 are not that far off the mark.

Edit: by the way, are there unlockable costumes in the game or only the ones you get from DLC?
