I didn't have a single issue with that, but when I first "learned" how to play that goddamn harp, I almost died in real life. It took me literally 34 minutes to pass that single song because my controller kept flipping out. I tried all sorts of waving motions with all sorts of different speeds, and I could just NOT get it to work. I literally almost threw my special gold remote at the TV (throwing a controller is something I've never done before (still haven't!)). That's how upset I was.

Oddly after that it worked almost flawlessly in all future attempts. I feel as though the game was trolling me.


Did you try re-calibrating it? I had to a few times during some dungeons. My god the puzzle piece mini game that you have to do before fighting a boss was so fricken annoying sometimes xD.

The harp thing was simple to me though o.o, although I will never try that Pumpkin bar mini game ever again , the one involving you to play along the girl who is singing and you have to wave the harp the way the audience is moving.....that just pissed me off >.>.

I did try recallibrating it! Nothing worked! Until it finally stopped trolling me.


The worst part about the bar performance is that it drags on so long, you think you're actually doing fairly well, and then it goes absolutely insane near the end and all of a sudden the audience hates you and you have a growing pit of unwantedness in your stomach - the kind of feeling that makes you want to hide under your covers and cry. xD

 

Back onto the main topic, how would Nintendo bring back a simplistic approach while keeping 3D gameplay? 2D gameplay is so much more simplistic in nature, and that's why 3D games have generally had prolonged tutorials comparatively. Especially input-heavy games such as Zelda. Anyone have any ideas of their own?

In its purest form, it would be something like Zelda 1, but in 3D, with difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, Hard).

With a touch of modernization, it would be something like Zelda 1, but with storyline injected as you advance in the game, a little at a time, leaving the player wanting more, but also following through with the promise of a good punch (not Nintendo's forte imho). Being like Zelda 1, it would have limited dialog, excellent chimes and tunes, muddy and woody, yet bright color themes, not shiny but matte, and would be very open-ended. You can visit the last dungeons at the start of the game if you want to, but do so at your own risk.

It's a distinctly different feeling when something isn't responding how you think it should, versus the difficulty being too hard.

I love NES games and even though I can't get through the last dungeon in Zelda1 without a guide, I appreciate the difficulty. Hell, I'm one of the very few people who loves AoL, and I still can't beat the last temple. But I love it.

Good days haha.I remember throwing a few controllers at the wall, I must have broken about three or four, till my parents told me they wouldn´t buy them anymore if I kept doing it.

Some of those games just crossed the line from being fun to being quite annoying, it got difficult to keep anger in check.

Really? You mean a straight playthrough all the levels or including the warp pipes?

I'm gonna do a recording of a straight playthrough all the levels (never did it before) but I did finish the game a few times but through warp pipes.

Edit: I found the Lost Levels on the All Stars on SNES to be alot harder XD

I finished All Stars, but with save points (not in the original). It was hard, but imagine how hard it must've been on the Famicom DD.

Having said that, I still find Super Mario bros. difficult simply due to how easy it is to die in the last levels and in worlds 4 & 5, and with the low lifecount, with no easy way of farming.

But yeah, it would be easier in a full playthrough as an advanced player since you can get more extra lives. But I only finished it using the warp pipes personally. I've yet to really give it a good shot lately. Last I played of it was on my 3DS, and I died alot.
