It's a distinctly different feeling when something isn't responding how you think it should, versus the difficulty being too hard. I love NES games and even though I can't get through the last dungeon in Zelda1 without a guide, I appreciate the difficulty. Hell, I'm one of the very few people who loves AoL, and I still can't beat the last temple. But I love it.
