Forums - Nintendo - Iwata: "PSN and Live too far developed for us to catch up"

can you blame Nintendo for not putting an enormous effort to catch up?
if they did you would bash them for playing catch up...

Considering the things I said in this thread, why would you assume that? I have also stated that I am more than willing to concede if I happen to not know everything and maybe things are not as bare bones as these answers make it out to be.

As I said to the other person; unless you have something to add other than taking digs at me, please leave the thread. Your post adds nothing.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I read this and while it is true that Sony and Microsoft have been working on their services for years now, all I can sit and ask myself is:

What the hell have they been doing all these years?

Nintendo should of invested on this idea honestly, but now if they ever do this in the future maybe a generation or later, they'll be even more behind when the time comes.

They could easily make alot of money out of this idea with their games...I guess that is why some of their games still cost 49.99 when they've been out for years (cough Super Smash Bros. Brawl cough).

Now that you mention it, Brawl actually got a price cut not that long ago. It's now 30 dollars.

"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth." -My good friend Mark Aurelius

Better question to ask what features do you really think it won't have?

We know it has in=game (pause game) chat and video chat.
We know you can make friends instantly without long codes.
We know you'll have usernames and avatars (miis).
We know it will have some sort of acheivement idea around miiverse, maybe not what we're used to in Live/PSN and it won't be forced on devs. (with 3rd parties doing it for everything already you'd have to expect them to continue)
We know you'll have in-game (same game) chat as there are already 3rd party headphones coming.
We know you'll have strong community system. (miiverse)
We know you'll have multiple accounts per system (up to 20 I think i read specifically)
We know you'll have digital downloads, which means obviously DLC, demos, and patches.
We know you'll have media services from every major supplier and a browser (how good browser is, is up for concern, but with a tablet controller and app patching capabilities, I'm sure it will be fine)
We know you'll have wireless-n connectivity or LAN
We know you'll have all this even when TV is being used by something else through the gamepad
We know you'll have this as a standard set across ALL owners because most of it comes through the gamepad and not required extra devices like headsets and cameras/kinect.
We know you'll have just about every major feature you would want or expect because they are derivatives of the things I listed above.

What likely won't be there are certain content items like buddy watching movies that Live offers, cross-game chat while still playing a game, Home-like feature (though Miiverse maybe that), specific ties to content providers, cross-platform multiplayer like a rare few games on PS360 have done, etc.

I think people really need to look at the big picture of details already known when they hear snippets of out of context quotes like this.

sry

Nintendo has to put an enormous effort to catch up, they believe is not worth that effort...you cant blame Nintendo for doing what they believe is better for them

I don't understand what he is saying, I mean look what Sony did with PSN after being 6 years late on xbox live yet you get most of the functions of live, I don't understand why Nintendo, the greatest company in the world according to a certain group, wouldn't be able to offer a similar offer to live and PSN. Well, I bet it's greed Nintendo are notorious for keeping their games full price from launch to the end of the gen, if they had to offer a service like PSN and xbox live they would share the same games on their online stores, while Sony and microsoft would discount a certain number of games from time to time, the greedy Nintendo would keep them full price therefore screwing their costumer and maybe the fanboy might realize then how dirty Nintendo really is which would lead to their downfall, nicely played Nintendon't

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Because MS is a PC company who has been in networking and PC business since its inception.

Sony is a full technology, hardware, entertainment, software company and has also been building this this type of stuff for decades, i.e. also since the advent of the internet.

Nintendo is a game company for the last 40 years and has only messed with networking for the last 8? years. It takes a lot to build up the competencies required and Nintendo isn't one to go out and spend millions on licensing deals to have it delivered to them.

However, read my post a few posts up. I really think this is being overblown.

don't even try, your common sense and plausible reasons won't affect my already made up mind

I patiently await proper details. Let's hope Reggie drops some *top secret* Wii U notes on the floor or something.

Iwata didn't say at all that they "can't" catch up, at all! He said it wouldn't be a good idea for them to try to emulate what they did, which is absolutely accurate - it WOULDN'T. They should do something unique and different that offers the same core concepts, and that's absolutely what they have right now.

The only thing I don't see yet is an achievement system. That's ALL I want.
