Iwata didn't say at all that they "can't" catch up, at all! He said it wouldn't be a good idea for them to try to emulate what they did, which is absolutely accurate - it WOULDN'T. They should do something unique and different that offers the same core concepts, and that's absolutely what they have right now.
The only thing I don't see yet is an achievement system. That's ALL I want.
