In the beginning of time, God created the world. He then created some humans to inhabit this world. And from the very second that they where born, they were faced by a dilemma: The world is full of evil, and the only way to avoid this evil is too listen to every word that God says. After all, God created everything, which means that He has the right to make the rules. Some of those rules included:

- You may not worship anyone but God himself, who must be worshipped at all times

- You may not steal from others

- You may not be jealous of others (or their wealth)

- You may not be homosexual

- You may not leave the world (by commiting suicide in order to avoid evil or the worship of God)

- You may not question the rules

There was obviously a lot more rules, but for the sake of simplicity I have decided to cut the list right there.

Time started passing by, and it didn't take long until most humans had already started questioning His rules: The humans that where born in poor conditions started stealing from the wealthier population (that's stealing and jealousy), the homosexual population started to make love in order to enjoy life the same way as the heterosexual population did, some the population who received no love or support from anyone despite following all of God's rules throughout their entire lives started killing itself (thus leaving the world) and the people who never found any happiness in worshipping God and/or following His rules started to make their own rules by stopping their worship altogether (thus breaking two of the most centric rules).

Once those people died they where likely faced by an ethernity of evil because of their inability to follow the rules that God had made. By living a life embraced by evil such as stealing because of jealousy, being homosexual, commiting suicide because of a feeling that God won't give you comfort or abandons you (despite the fact that He obviously never does) and of course: Having the guts to question God's authority, you clearly have broken some of the main rules no matter how you twist it. God may be forgiving in certain cases, but why would He forgive you if you can't even follow the simplest rules that He has set, or if you cannot trust Him? God gave you life, so you should natually be thankful for that by following His rules.

Moral: Disobeying the rules that God has set is the pure definition of evil. And those rules are always just.

* Matthew 22:37-39: 37Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’b 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’c 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

*Galatians 5:14: The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

* James 1:27: Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

* 1 John 5-7: 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.  7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[b] sin.

That is basically a Buddhistic view, as in "As long as you love God, you will be happy, no matter what misery may happen to you." And we all know that that is not true, or at least not true in most cases.

My point, regarding your quote: Simply trusting and listening to God won't make you happy. I mean, there is even the possibility that admitting your faith may lead to misery if, for instance, your family has a different view than you do. By lying in that scenario you should even end up happier, so that quote is illogical.

But you do know that religious people and people that follown God in general are generally more happy and satisfied with their lives, while atheists and thos who dont beleive in God are more likely to sad, depressed and miserable, right? I made a threa about it a year ago, I'll see if I can find it again. So, if anything, following God will more likely make you a happier person, rather than the opposite, which is what you suggested.

My definition is suffering and the things that cause it.
