Renar, this 1,7M PS3 includes the PAL launch (at least 600k as that is what they sold the first week).

The sales of PS3 between the week ending 7th January 07 and the week ending 1st April 07 were 671k, divided by 12 weeks is about 56k a week on average in Others

In other word, if the PS3 keeps selling on average as well as this week in Others they will do as good numbers there as they did last year so either they need to improve their average sales as compared to this week's sales or they need to improve them more dramatically in NA/JP to compensate in order to do 50% more this year than last. I would qualify it of possible but not very likely. Next week's Others numbers will tell us if PS3 is settling around 55k or falling further.

They've already started the double-talk about claiming that they're really shooting for 11 million total shipped now.

First any one know how much they shipped already ? Second they sold more then vg shows, funny this place does not count the .5 million PS3s in India so who knows how much extra sales there really are out there.

The likes of Burnout and DMC4 could move some hardware if they get a good marketing push. While hddvd misery is helping the PS3, if Universal were to go neutral it be another wave of good news.

VG charts has the LTD sales March 2007=2,800,000.
(a huge 2.7mil being stocked at retail?)

(5.2mil sold since March'07)


If Sony do need 14mil, according to these figures they are almost there.
9mil+2.7mil=11.7mil (2.3mil/11=209k/week)=possible

However, if 5.5mil was their shipment number for March'07, wouldn't that mean they would need to ship 16.5mil by March'08? If so, they still need to sell 4.8mil (4.8mil/11=436k/week)=never going to happen


Sony does have a good excuse though; they could say the amount would have been reached if it wasnt for the unforeseeable delays of their 2 largest games in the financial year (MGS4 +GTAIV), which is completely true.

This can be followed by how these numbers will be recovered when the games are finally released.

Until this fiscal year, Sony was reporting units produced as shipped. They then switched to units sold to retailers as shipped. That 5.5 million is produced, the number for shipped is 3.57 million IIRC.

If they don't report that they shipped about 6M units in Q3(and I severly doubt that they did), then I'd be extremely suprised if they don't revise the forecast down.  Not to do so would just be misleading investors.

There were not half a million PS3s sold in India. It was obvious the article that reported that was wrong. Sheesh, quit spreading false information.

i doubt that they will hit the numbers, then the spin machine will kick into high gear and we will all have a good laugh

 That's not at all my intention, i don't like Sony because I feel they engage in bad buisness practices and harm the industry.

But I do point out that Sony will have a hard time reaching even 10 million sold by the end of march at its current sales rate so there will be a lot of shipments forced into the supply chain
