Forums - Gaming - Bad Conference = Bad Console? ( You tube video abotu wii u, thats really great)

I agree with much of what he said (of what I saw at least). I think a lot of people had some knee jerk reactions from Nintendo's lackluster conference and projection it on their thoughts of the console itself. The problem with the conference, like he said, is it didn't really tell/show us much, in terms of the capabilities of the system, which is part of the reason it left such a bad taste in our mouths. But that doesn't mean the capabilities aren't there.

If you take a step back, take the poor E3 showing out of the equation, and look at the console itself, it actually looks pretty damn good. Let's review - we've got a brand new classic Mario game AT LAUNCH, Pikmin 3, which looks gorgeous, Rayman Legends, ZombiU, along with sold solid third party titles like Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect 3, Dark Siders 2, Batman Arkam Asylum, etc, all on one console. Plus, you know we're going to get classics like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid, etc.. My main concern is the lack of GROUND UP, exclusive third party games, but I'm sure those will come in time.

I also like the potential of the tablet controller. While I don't really care for the gimmicky stuff like the Nintendo land ghost hide and seek and whatnot, I do like the idea of streaming games directly to the tablet while somebody else can watch something on the TV. It will also be handy for things like map screens, stats, radar, etc. Basically a home console version of the DS. While I don't feel as excited for this console as I did for Wii, I still think it will be great in its own right, and it certainly has a great launch lineup, which, if the games announced so far are any indication, looks to potentially surpass Wii in quality games.

but come on, theres always a game thats at least slightly interesting at launch, plus the console is backwards compatible, is not like the PSVita you know

So you're going to buy a console for some games you're slightly interested in and to play the games you already own and can play on another console?  If you love Nintendo and just want to give them a bit of charity and not worry about future price cuts then just say it like that.  That's a reasonable purpose behind a purchase if you have the means for it, and I do that with NISA games all the time.  Hell if you have a ton of money and just want to play with the controller while watching TV that's ok too.  But buying something early based on what you know it'll do down the line makes no sense in a world where prices go down instead of up.

I don't trust launch games anymore. Also, why would he buy a new system to play his old games on? By waiting, he gets good games and everything will be cheaper so he can get even more.

If he wanted to give charity to Nintendo he wouldn't even bother buying a wiiu. He would just buy software. Or mail them money.

with nintendo you know games are coming, Zelda, Mario, Smash...its perfectly valid to buy a console for its upcoming titles rather than for the available ones

What if those games happen to suck for whatever reason? (rushed, glitches, etc) What if you like the company but don't like those 3 titles?

It's gotta be a combination of both. You look at all the available games and the upcoming and then you make your decision. For long time fans of nintendo in this case, I guess that works but not for casuals, which has been nintendo most sought out market since the Wii, in my honest opinion.

the console has some pretty good launch games, its backwards compatible, has an affordable price and the promise of great 1st party games in the near future, thats more than enough for me to buy it day one, of course if you dont like Nintendo at all this console wont change your mind...

are you guys denying the importance of being backwards compatible...wow, its pretty much what killed the Vita in Japan

We bought PS3's after their 2006 Conference because of the big core games that we knew we're coming to the console and believed to be exclusives like Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy XIII and hopefully FFVII HD, Grand Theft Auto IV, and successful Sony ips like God of War and the next games from Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and SuckerPunch. There's no indication that Nintendo's going to be able to get all of the biggest name third party games, they didn't even show off one huge third party core exclusive at their conference ( ZombiU doesn't count as it's only Red Steel Wii U -- and there's some indication that it's going multi), that Nintendo's lineup is going to in any way have the same variation of games that were slated to be coming to the PS3, and quite a bit of Nintendo's conference showed that Nintendo still very much favors the casuals and is only interested in having as many core gaming fans as they can get by only shoving out the umpteenth Mario game.

Most people don't buy Nintendo conosles for the third party games though, they buy them for the NINTENDO games. And obviously Wii U is going to get them...

And anyway how do you know Nintendo won't get the big third party games? A little presumptuous considering it's the first E3 in which Nintendo showed Wii U games, and still months before launch.

Made me lol.

He does bring up some good points. The conference doesn't necessarily indicate how good or bad the system will be. However, it gives us a good idea if what the system will be about and the type of things we can expect. Nintendo can mess up a conference even if they have a good product to show, so we shouldn't make up our minds just from a one hour conference that only shows a small fraction of the games the system will have.

Nintendo still doomed?

Because most of the Third Party games like Gears of War V from Epic will be geared toward consoles capable of replicating high end PC specs, and like the Wii since the Wii U's only a step up from this gen, it won't be capable of producing games to those specs like PS4 and Nextbox.
