I think Sony will try to make a very powerful console, but I have no idea what Microsoft plans to do
Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

You neglected to mention the single most important thing; the death of proper indie gaming. Too many studios have shut down the past few years due to obseen development costs, and when Team Bondi have to close down when their game sells several million units because it hasn't made money, you know there's an issue. Expect to see FPS' and racing games through UE4 being 95% of the library releasing in 4-5 years. |
okey dokey I think there is quite a lot of discrimination going on here. I love my PS3, but I also love my Wii. I love the realistic graphics and all that, but I also love Zelda and Mario and Samus and Kirby and all them. --
that reminds me, I need to go get Kirby Mass Attack for DS.

How will more powerful hardware hurt indies? games don't cost more
2 man team
1 guy did everything but music
these people will still be making games, and devs that don't have the art telent can make the exact same games they do today and just display the in high res. In fact more powerful hardware will just mean they have to do less optomisation work to get their games to run.
Team Bondai was a miss managed mess that took 7 years to make their first game and reportedly already cost $50 mill in 2010. It's like using Shenmu to say that the last generation pushed budgets to high.

xbox3 > ps4 >>> wiiu
Did some of you not see the WiiU at e3? It'll be to the X360/PS3 what the Wii was to XB/PS2.
I think xbox3 will edge it over PS4 in both power and sales, out of the 3 they will be the most successful and catering to both the hardcore and casual markets.
I also think it'll be the first gen since the 16Bit era where the most powerful console is the most successful.
A verified developer at NeoGAF has said that Durango (the next Xbox) is more powerful than Orbis (the next Playstation) in almost every way (better GPU, better CPU, more RAM, etc.).
He said Durango is like a high end PC, Orbis a mid level PC and Wii U a low level PC.
And both Durango and Orbis will come out Christmas 2013.
If you take Moore's law into account it will be 2x more powerfull than current cosoles max. But I think the next-box will be the most powerfull because the Xbox360 is also the most powerfull of the 2...

I guess he truly was talking about power, but I still believe the PS4 will not be a powerhouse like the PS3 was, but there is also the fact that the system will probably launch 1 or 2 years after the Wii U, so who knows... |
The PS3 isn't the best in sales.... So, maybe he didn't mean that. Now, I do think that when the PS4 comes, PS3 will still sell just as strongly as it is now, as there's still an untapped market for it. I think that's what Sony is going for. Sell everyone an xpensive system that can afford it, then, as it gets cheaper, focus on everyone else. Given the PS3's digital abilities, it just may surpass the PS2... in 10 more years...

That isn't how Moore's law works. Moore's law says that transistor counts (which also means a similar increase in processor performance) will double every eighteen months.
If we assume the next Xbox comes out Fall 2013, that will be eight full years between console releases (Xbox 360 came out Fall 2005), or 96 months. 96 months is 5 1/3 "18 month" periods. This means that the next Xbox should be 2^5.333 = 40.32 times the power of the Xbox 360.
Wii U doesn't really look anywhere close to 40 times the power of the 360 to me. The gap in graphic power between Wii U and the next Xbox might very well be even bigger than the gap between the Wii and the Xbox 360.
