You must realize the more advanced the systems become, the less noticeable value we'll gain from improvements. The only reason call of duty 2 looked better than 6th generation games was because it ran at >480p resolutions. Otherwise, it wouldn't be very impressive. We're at the point where any improvements in consoles will be the difference from a low-end PC game to a high-end PC game, which in the grand scheme of things isn't that big of a difference. Consoles right now, are comparable to medium settings on Skyrim, for example. According to what we know of the Wii U, it should be able to run Skyrim at similar frames-per-second at 720p with Ultra settings. If we look at the other 8th generation consoles, I'd expect them to only be minimally better than the Wii U. Overall, to a console gamer running games at sub-1080p resolutions, there won't be a significant difference. At least not one at the level of transition from 6th -> 7th generation, or before. Games are getting more expensive to develop for, and the best looking games are the most expensive.
