well after this E3 I didn't see anything that suggest the wii U is much more powerful then the ps360, not even the zelda game that they showed last year or a tech demo to show the power, is it possible that adding that second game pad taxed the wii U more then we realize??

It wouldn't be that. Adding the second gamepad slows framerate only, and even then we're not sure if that just means framerate on the pad or framerate altogether, since its speculated to be a bandwidth problem.

It is odd that nothing so far looks to match the tech demos they showed last year, doubly odd because Nintendo tech demos are not known for overselling the hardware.

Pikmin 3 looks really good.

Honestly, it doesn't look much better than Pikmin 1 or 2 on the Gamecube graphically. The graphics are more than likely the exact same as they were when it was in developement on the Wii only now at HD resolutions. None of the current Wii U games are showing the graphical possibilities of the system. Hell, they are still using early dev kits.

I hope you know you are completely wrong. Pikmin 3 looks a lot better. I think it's pretty obvious.

took the words right out of my mouth, cant see how someone could possibly think that this is a great thing for a system launching 6 years after the first HD one

I love how you always say that it's a 6 year old console. Nice job noticing that but it doesn't affect anything! Would you say the first games on PS3 looked as good as Uncharted 3? No, you would not. The age if the console doesn't mean that much. The graphics evolve over time. And you know that.

Seems legit for a nice 250$-300$ launch price.

It's not surprising. I never really expected Nintendo to make a giant leap to be on par with Microsoft and Sony's next consoles.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Funny thing is that eye test tells me something else.

Ps3 at top, WiiU at bottom. Bottom looks much better to me.

Probsbly because the picture on top is blurrier... and that's not the resolution in game lol, it's the picture that's blurrier

Well Andre (and anyone else)., that may be the case.

One thing that it is not is a case of a bad screen cap for the PS3 as the GT scroll can easily be read.

The difference I see is about what I would expect if the Wii U is 1.5x to 2"5x times more powerful than current HD consoles. (8 know most of the conversation has center on 1.5x, I inlcuded the range because it is what I have been says for months).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

WiiU ports already look better than their counterparts, and looking years ahead it will be the Wii/Ps360 situation all over again, but the gap between them is going to be smaller

THe games that were shown when PS3 and 360 came out looked better than anything that was running on PS2/GC/xbox. COD2 looks better than anything released on those consoles and a few other games as well. There is nothing ive seen from Wii U at E3 that looks better than what is already available on PS360 and this is supposed to be a NEXT gen console. Now if your impressed that Ninty is putting out a console that is able to have games that look as good as consoles that have been on the market for 5-6 years then good on you. Hell Those Wii U games look as good as Uncharted 2 and that was released years ago

You must realize the more advanced the systems become, the less noticeable value we'll gain from improvements. The only reason call of duty 2 looked better than 6th generation games was because it ran at >480p resolutions. Otherwise, it wouldn't be very impressive. We're at the point where any improvements in consoles will be the difference from a low-end PC game to a high-end PC game, which in the grand scheme of things isn't that big of a difference. Consoles right now, are comparable to medium settings on Skyrim, for example. According to what we know of the Wii U, it should be able to run Skyrim at similar frames-per-second at 720p with Ultra settings. If we look at the other 8th generation consoles, I'd expect them to only be minimally better than the Wii U. Overall, to a console gamer running games at sub-1080p resolutions, there won't be a significant difference. At least not one at the level of transition from 6th -> 7th generation, or before. Games are getting more expensive to develop for, and the best looking games are the most expensive.

The scroll isn't part of the footage their showing, it's "on top" if you know what I mean. Not sure how to describe it, it's like putting a watermark on something, the quality of the video isn't the same as the watermark. As someone who has played Assassins Creed games on PS3, it looks absolutely nothing like that shot. That shot looks almost SD

I think the easiest thing to do is to simply wait until the console is released and make a decision for yourself; no?

Fact is, the WiiU is certainly more powerful than the current generation; be it 1.5x (mimimum) or 3x (maximum). If you're expecting a drastically bigger leap from the PS4/720, I'm afraid that ain't gonna happen under $500/£400.

The key thing is that the WiiU CAN port across games, and it can make them look more detailed. Much of this is from the at least 3x extra RAM, so it can handle more. And the GPU of course, but that depends on how it's optimised. Because of this, games from both this gen and next gen will be playable on the WiiU, and because of the CC shown, with a very similar button layout, this won't be a hard job.

Is that not the most important thing? Having both Nintendo games in HD AND 3rd party support?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.
