Forums - Gaming - Sony – our competitors “are losing the plot” with gamers

Didn't read past the first page so forgive me if someone already mentioned this. However more and more I think that actually MS and Nintendo have it right about E3. And sony are starting to get there with their wonderbook nonsense and early announcements.

The attitude that E3 is for the 'hardcore' gamer seems kinda pointless. We read gaming websites. If a new God of War or Halo is announced then we know about it nigh on immediately. As evidenced by the fact so many of us were underwhelmed at them showing previously announced games.

So really to us things being announced at E3 doesn't matter. We all knew The Last of Us, GoW:A etc were coming regardless.

However there are a lot of press who write for websites, magazines etc not aimed at the hardcore gamer that do go to E3 and it is a time when they write about video games. Their audience probably does care about Wii Fit more than Halo. And they probably do need a little reminder that already announced games like GoW: A are coming.

So really I don't see why E3 shouldn't just be for highlighting some previously announced big things and more casual aimed things.

Why make a big announcement about a hardcore game at E3 when it will have some attention lost in all the buzz when you could just as well announce it in a month or so time and most hardcore gamers would hear about it in a few days anyway.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

Sounds like Sony is mad that other companies are starting to take a slice of their pie.

"Sony’s head of digital games, Jack Buser, is of the opinion the firm’s console rivals “lost the plot,” during E3 as the event is more about showing great games than trying to “legitimize themselves in the non-game entertainment space.”

Kind of ironic since Sony, a consumer electronics giant most known for its non-game entertainment, has been trying to legitimize themselves in the gaming entertainment space since 1995.  And now that their games division is the only part of the company turning a profit, they suddenly feel the need to bash other companies for further branching out into non-gaming media and entertainment.  As if they were one of the OGs (that's original gamesters) along with Atari, Nintendo and SEGA back in the day.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Cant quote so please bear with me.

@Basil

It does look nice huh?

@crissinda

Why is the attach ratio so similar despite lower exclusive and multiplat sales? Because even though they don't sell as much individually it all adds up due to the wide variety of titles ranging from the popular shooter to the niche to the super weird.

@Adjescent

I would wager not since a BD player costs $50 these days.

i said something like that with usher/dance central and jk rowling/wonderbook. i saw only one report on german tv about e3 and what did they show? usher and dance central, smart glass and the wii u. that's why i  understand sony and microsoft if they show something like that. they don't need the conference for their hardcore games, they could even make the whole conference only with wonderbook, dance central and sports whatever because we, the fans, will read about the e3 in gaming forums and on gaming sites. it would be enough to show "the real games" on the floor to ign and gamespot.

Wow NintendoPie. I'm pretty shocked that you actually think Sony's focus is primarily on making pretty games. Considering the incredibly wide variety of titles they put out, they are pretty much the last major publisher I would consider that for.

i explained why, some games like football games sell much better on ps3 and the ratio is lower but only a little bit (one game). so i donÄt know if multi-plats really sell worse. maybe madden but not fifa or pes. maybe cod but not soul calibur or street fighter.

and maybe 100 more reasons...

I completely agree with them. Sony keep giving the games and the new stuff for me as a hardcore gamer. That is the main focus. The hardcore gamer. I think Microsoft and Nintendo are suffering an identity crisis at the moment.

Sony now has a solid lead when it comes to gamers : without kinect 360 would have sold millions less than PS3.

@crissinda

Majority of multiplats sell higher on 360 and the Ps3 ones do not make up for the multiple 10m Halo, CoD or higher on average sellinh Multiplats. If is because if you look even to this year, how many titles has the other two released compared to Sony?

Those titles may not sell big, but its better than nothing selling at all.

It is part of the reason why Sony may end up with the most million sellers.

I genuinely agree, especially for microsoft's part. They tried way to hard with all the nike and smartglass, and ESPN stuff. It didn't feel like an E3 conference at all for them. Nintendo did a little better, their main problem was just the software was very underwhelming and sub par unless you die for all things Mario. Sony won this E3 in my opinion because it brought games. They really did focus on the games. Maybe it wasn't all the things that gamers wanted but the games are definitely coming strong this year.

That being said, Wonderbook took way too goddamn long.
