Forums - Movies & TV - video store rentals a thing of the past.

http://www.statepress.com/2012/04/02/blockbuster-storefronts-make-way-for-online-streaming/ ----link. I remember as a kid my parents going to blockbuster and renting movies all the time. This would happen alot on the weekends. We would top this off with pizza, from pizza hut are something like that. I also remember, going to hollywood video later on,but I think all those stores shut down and blockbuster is pretty much hanging bye a thread. With the option of redbox and netflix and services like crackle and hulu and renting movies on your game systems, video store rentals are pretty much a thing of the past. It kind of makes me sad, because renting movies at blockbuster/hollywood video is what got me into my love of movies,in the first place. I guess,I'm just 2 oldschool.

So many childhood memories of trying to sneak softcore porn past my mom... good times. I feel so bad for the kids of today.

What a terrible world you've inherited, bereft of all adventure.

All the video rental places closed in my area 6 years ago and I live right in chicago. Now netflix and hulu are the only ways I see movies. I just hate netflix though because I joined when it was $10 for both streaming and a dvd but then it just kept rising. Now I cannot even put holds on my account anymore. You have to cancel your service and restart when you want to come back. That means no putting movies in my queue and I don't know if my queue will still have all the movies when I restart it in a couple of months. There is a redbox but it does not have the movies I want to see. And hulu barely has any good movies. I definitely miss the video store.

Safari also has something like that too!

Woot for Safari's Private Browsing mode!!

Me and the girlfriend still use our local blockbuster. We usually try to get 5 films for £5 for a week. Most of the time though theres not a lot in store.

Hmm... obviously video rentals are almsot a thing of the past, but I am more thinking, do people really use anything else than torrents? I thought young people nowadats only watched movies through torrents. At least I do (albeit Im not that young) and all my friends too.

The local HoolyWood movie rentals closed a couple years ago. At least now I have an autozone.
And just last month, the local blockbuster finally closed it's doors. Good memories.

Blockbuster is still hanging on in my community. I love it there now that they have 1 dollar a day rentals instead of like 4 dollars a week. So much better. Love looking at their selection.
