Forums - Gaming - do you think developers will ask for more money?

This gen saw an increase of $10  to help off set the cost of games yet companies were still going  in the red even if their games are selling almost a million copies. Games now are taking 3 to 4 years to create with thousand of people working on them. With the release of the new FF tech demo and all this talk of smart glass do you think that Developers will ask for another raise in game price. The dollar is already in decline so 60 in 2005 is equivalent to 70 today.

So will games cost 70 next gen? Will you be willing to pay that much for your new games?

I don't think the market would accept retail game price rises, but this has already happened with DLC. You're paying $10 or $20 more to get the full game experience than you would have 5 years ago.

I think we will just see fewer AAA-budget games funded and produced, as the number of copies sold to break even rises. Gaming will focus around a smaller number of top franchises.

Despite the industry rhetoric of demanding higher performance, the remaning series with smaller markets will plateau at the average PS3/360 graphics level, which is still enough to achieve believable realism in the games that need it. Performance is no longer holding back any game idea being fully realised.

Not from the start, but one or two years later some games will start to be 5 $/€ more.

And the DLC's, seasons and online passes will become the norm.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I remember back in the mid-nineties when games were $70USD a pop

I would not really like to return to those times if I could help it, but it's kind of inevitable

I personally think there just going to add a bunch of high priced DLC. Games will cost more eventually, but I already plan to stop gaming after this gen,so it doesn't matter.

As others have mentioned, I believe developers will be looking towards other means of monetization rather than slapping an extra few bucks on the initial price tag.

I'm guessing we'll get a shitload of free-to-plays, more XBLA/PSN titles (20$ or less) and less AAA games (not drastically less though, like 1/4 less). AAA games will stay around the same price as costs will be cut significantly thanks to the push towards digital distribution. We'll also get more frequent steam-like sales on consoles.

At the risk of sounding naive, maybe instead of focusing on uber awesome graphics and moar powa, how about they look at making things cheaper for themselves?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I think it is entirely possible. Not just because of budget costs, but because of inflation.

Inflation will play a larger roll on the price than any development cost factor.

Think back to those stories of people buying a coke for 5 cents, crazy? but inflation is the cause, and may be in the future (of course digital distribution could offset that by saving costs, but companies wont surrender their retail presence so the cost will not be more attractive than retail)

First few words and already false information, unless games were 49 dollars in America last gen. Here in Europe games were 59 euros in PS2 days. I remember buying GTA San Andreas for 60 euros back in 2004. Before the Euro and before PS2, games were even more expensive during the SNES and PS1/N64 days.

Game development is comparable to last gen, you act like all games take 3 to 4 years to make. Uncharted 2, one of the best games this gen was only created in 18 months.
