For whatever reason, Nintendo's Wii started off the current console gen as the fastest selling console in video game history; however, in recent times that pace certainly hasn't held up very well, and the last time that Nintendo had any great success with Wii seems to have been the 2010 holiday season.
As it currently stands, Nintendo's Wii has sold 95.8 Million Units. Even though this console generation has lasted longer than any other and Nintendo's Wii has most likely won this console gen in terms of number of console units sold, in comparison to the number of units that last gen's dominant console the Playstation 2 sold and in comparison to the number of units that Nintendo sold of its last handheld console The Nintendo DS that won the last generation of handheld gaming, Wii's total sales numbers versus the number of Sony Playstation 2 consoles sold and versus the number of Nintendo DS units sold appears to be quite shabby ( The PS2 and DS both sold close to 150 million units).
With a new Nintendo console on the way and hardly any new games announced for Nintendo's Wii at this week's E3 2012 ( really the only new Wii game I can think of is the Multiplat Epic Mickey 2 -- a game in a series which was originally Wii exclusive), it looks like Wii's future could conceivably be quite bleak.
When do you think Wii will pass 100 Million Units sold and do you think its sales numbers as the leading console of this generation will ever really look respectable when compared to those for Nintendo's DS and Sony's Playstation 2?
