That 101k vs 124k for Mario Tennis is really strange. In fact, most nintendo games have bigger numbers in famitsu!

Low Sell Through For Guild 01, High Sell Through For Dragon Quest

Dragon Quest Monsters Terry's Wonderland 3D did something only one 3DS game before it has managed: top half a million in its first week. The previous example is Monster Hunter 3G, which sold 522,000 units in its first week last December. DQM fell just shy of this, with 513,138 units.

DQM may very well have ended up with the best first week performance for a 3DS game if Square Enix had shipped more units. Media Create reports a high 93.96% sell-through rate for DQM. Sure enough, many shops sold out of stock when the game saw release last Thursday.

As impressive as Terry's Wonderland 3D's first week figures are, the game did not match Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 on DS, which sold 624,000 units in its first week in April 2010. Media Create notes, however, that Joker 2's release came just before the Golden Week holiday period, which may have given it a boost. Other contributing factors may have been that Terry's Wonderland 3D is a remake rather than an original title, and the DS user base was much higher. Those sell-outs may have also kept the 3DS title from pulling bigger numbers. Joker 2, in contrast, had just a 66.8% sell-through.

The other major new release for the week was Level-5's Guild 01, which combines four unique games from different creators like Yoot Saito (Seaman), Yasumi Matsuno (Final Fantasy Tactics) and Suda 51 (Killer 7, No More Heroes). This sold just 15,000 units in its first week, with a low sell-through of 53.16% of stock.

Part of the problem for Guild 01 may have been a lack of consumer awareness. Media Create's awareness surveys the week of release revealed an extremely low 0.7% awareness for the game. Most people who did know of the game said that they'd learned of it through game magazines, suggesting that what little success the game did have was amongst core gamers.

93.96% sell through! Wow, SE definitely should have shipped more. It would have overtaken MH3G for best 3ds game opening if they had.
Next weeks DQM numbers will have a precipitous drop. Today (Friday) is the first day I've actually seen a copy in stock since Saturday and it was in a store with a small game section in a different city.

Must be a big city problem. :P
