Forums - Nintendo - The Wii from a 360 fanboy - a review

I liked SMG, but I am still having a hard time getting used to the controls. Maybe I am just too old skool. Nonetheless, I still gave it a 9.75 because it was a cool experience.

I'm really surprised you like Wiisports more than SMG, as a gamer. I thought Wiisports wore off in mere hours, but SMG is every bit as much fun as Mario 64!
I haven't played Zelda on the Wii yet, but I'm pretty sure I'd love it (as a true Zelda addict).
Zack & Wiki looks like an allright game I guess, but true games in the spirit of Full Throttle (which I played to death!) are, sadly, dead years ago with the PC adventure era we once had.

Being a true Zelda addict, why have you not played a one year old Zelda game yet???????

I'm not ready to take that step yet, buying a console for one game seems useless at any rate. As it stands, there's only SMG and Zelda I really want, it all depends on how Mario Kart turns out. If that's good as well, I'm buying a Wii!

Besides, I'm deathly afraid that everything after Ocarina of Time is a letdown once I try it! (Wind Waker was so and so, especially for a Zelda game).

(Replying to first post)

Try Metroid Prime 3 for a bit.

Wii Sports is freakin' viral.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

@Jose: Do you mean SMG? I'm more than 10 years beyond 18 and love SMG. I'd say old Mario fans, people aged like me loves the game the most. It's incredible.

@Mummelman: Storywise Twilight Princess beats every Zelda (with maybe the exception of OOT), but a word of warning, that it feels more linear and the world is more empty and less colorful than other 3D Zeldas. Don't get me wrong, it's still one of the best games in the last decade.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

@ Everyone

I don't think I've ever started a thread that didn't end up in a flame wars.. this is kind of new for me... Thanks everyone!

I think with the Wii I'm just going to rent for a while. I have 3 games on my "must try" list

1) Zelda
2) Trauma Center
3) Fire Emblem

Oh and is Battalion Wars II any good?

@Kitler I played Super Mario Brother and SMB3 in my teens... I never liked Mario 2.

@Madskillz I think I saw Ghost Squad at Future Shop for 19.99.... I might check it out

@twest I thought I read that the jokes were more for adults... I kept asking myself where are the funny parts. Its a cute game, I just wasn't looking for a cute game.

I really think it's hard not to be disappointed by SMG at first, as the reviews were so positive, and also, as with all mario games, it starts slowly and builds up.

It's still a great game though, and a deserving game of the year.

Hi,

As some of you might know I (a 360 fanboy) recently purchased a Wii. I've had it for 3 days now and these are my impressions

-Super Mario Galaxy is kind of boring.. maybe the whole game of the year thing (which is the reason why I baught it) kind of raised my expectations, but I just couldn't go on after my third Grand Star

-Zack & Wiki is not as funny as people claim, again I think I fell for the hype and my expectations where not met. I knew the gamplay was ala Full Throttle, but after beating the first map (the whole map which is 6 or 7 levels) I couldn't go on either.

-Wii Sport, I'm having more fun with this then Zack & Wiki and SMG, which surprised me, I didn't think bowling would be so much fun, Tennis and Baseball are quite addictive also. Boxing and Golf kind of frustrate me...

- The Wii Console looks nice, quiet as a sleeping baby (I'm used to my 360 noise, it puts me to sleep at night), and the Wii Channels are interesting. I like to check the weather in various parts of the Meditarean where its warm.. cause here in Toronto its quite cold. Mii's are fun, I figured out how to make a character look like a horse, and I gave antlers to another by screwing around with the eyebrows.

Overall I baught this console more for my girlfriend and for when people come over, so I can't say I'm dissappointed. I'm hoping some good RPG's come out, more games that are aimed towards my preferences, and looking forward to Wii Fit. But for now I'm pretty happy with Wii Sports and it will probably be able to keep me entertained till I start bowling 300's!! or till my rotator cuffs start hurting again.

Oh, and I had to buy a component cable cause I didn't have a free regular input thingy at the back.. Gaming at 480p is not that bad...

Your review is similar to mine.

I find Wii Sports an awesome game to play with friends and family members. And sometimes by myself if I get extremely bored.

I disagree with the Super Mario Galaxy review. I really like this game, it's a new Mario platformer that's worth the time and money. I think you should give the game a little more time.

About Zack & Wiki, I haven't played the game. It looks fun and enjoyedable and surely a must-have since there are no games out right now that are like that on consoles.

I had my Wii since March of last year (2007) and I have enjoyed it for a few. But I will admit that Halo 3 and MotorStorm are sucking more time out of me than ever :P

Hope you enjoy your best purchase ever (Wii)!!!

Congrats!!!
