Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Did Microsoft just make Nintendo's Wii U tablet irrevelant?

Because the Wii U is about the screen on a controller and nothing else... -.-'

If anything, Microsoft just made gaming on an Xbox irrelevant.

LOL no what if i don't have a smartphone, or a tablet... you get the point.

in today's market?    ...probably means you're too broke ass poor to own a console.  who's phone isn't on IOs, android, or window mobile now-a-days?!?

Can you please link a photo to your new smartphone or tablet. I am shocked! guess you are the first person whom has actual buttons on such device.

Nope. All this will be used for is things like showing a map, play videos or some of the other stuff they showed in the video. There are dozens of different tablet sizes, screen resolutions, cameras, etc.

Also, you'd need 4 hands to use it like a Wii U tablet. Whenever you want to use your tablet you'll have to pause the game and reach for the tablet on your table.

They can share multiplats I guess!

I doubt that the Smart Glass features will gain much traction in this gen. I see this as a test bed for the NextBox 459 (that's the new console's name, count it!). They will either have this in droves for the new system, or go the tablet controller rout. The problem with full integration in games is that the platforms that they would support are so varied that you cant guarantee the same performance over every one (much like apps on Android devices) anything gaming related would just be a cursory add on. Now additional media features would be cool, controlling Netflix and all the other Xbox apps from my iPad would be great.

can you even play xbox games using your tablet with that glass shit?? if no, I don't think so

you obviously missed the part where they were playing madden (is was madden right?) via their tablet exactly in the same way a wii U game would be played...

he switched a few lines then the play went automatially is that the future of gaming??

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Smart glass isn't even for games! They showed all its media applications and then lied through their teeth that it's designed for games too. The football game was nothing that we haven't seen on tablets already while the Halo 4 one was pointless. Since the game was paused, why not just show that content on the tv?

I'm sure smart glass will sell systems, but no way will it cause a prospective Wii U buyer to jump ships.

Yeah haha You still need your Xbox controller to use smartglass. That's even the way they showed it: Pause the game, pick up your tablet, draw something / look something up on the tablet, pick up your controller.

This is not Microsoft's way to compete with the Wii U. This is Microsoft trying to gain market share in the living room. It's why they entered this business in the first place. Microsoft is focusing on making the Xbox a media hub.

and unlike the wiiU you can't play your games directlly on the controller, when the tv is needed for something more important like porn

Not really. Since the Smartglass isn't attached to a controller you'll have to constantly switch between it and the regular controller and that severly limits the gameplay possibilities compared to the WiiU pad. The WiiU would let you scan stuff in Metroid Prime or shoot ghosts in Fatal Frame without any hassle, but doing the same thing with the Smartglass would be a pain (if it works at all).
Another big difference is that the WiiU pad is the primary device for WiiU unlike the Smartglass. Unless the Smartglass takes off like the Kinect or better, it'll mostly be used for optional features.
