Forums - Nintendo - Will we see a 3DS revision this year? (Nikkei sez "yup")

I'm curious to hear if others really think the 3DS is going to be revised this year. Personally, I'm inclined to think "no." The 3DS' hardware does have many flaws, but in my opinion Nintendo would not be sufficiently motivated right now to fix those flaws.

The system's battery life is poor, but I understand that better batteries would have to be bulkier and/or more expensive. The D-pad is fairly unimpressive, but I don't believe Nintendo would find improving that feature alone enough to warrant a hardware revision. A second circle pad doesn't seem to be particularly high on Nintendo's to-do list, judging from how its internal games haven't bothered with it and how the thing is extremely difficult to acquire, at least in North America.

Additionally, a revision may cost Nintendo more money per system. Since Iwata made a point of informing investors that the system is scheduled to break even come August, I don't see them doing anything to lose them more money on this thing than they already have. Nor do I think they'd use the occasion to raise the system's price, as they had a fire sale for a reason, and even afterwards they're not exactly doing stellar outside of Japan.

What do you think? Is a 3DS Lite really on its way?

No...simply because they have to worry about releasing Wii U hardware this year. Can't worry about producing another 3DS sku(?) right now.

Next  year, most  definitely.

The DS Lite came out in 2006, the same year as the Wii, but admittedly that was in the early part of the year instead of the latter.

Yes.
I think Nintendo will adopt the Apple business model.

Release a new 3DS model every year.

3DS Pro will be announced in January

If PsVita starts selling somwhere in the future, Nintendo will release an upgraded 3DS, if Vita dies, probably not

No, at least until 2014, no.

Definitely, and soon.
NSMB 2 with a remodel. BOOM.

But no 2nd analog. Just new design, better screen, better battery.
