I ask, because it's only like 50 bucks more then a regular DS which I was planning on getting. Wanted to get new since my PSP crapped out pretty earlier on me.
Is it an "Everything works fine" BC, or is it a "Most things work fine most of the time" kind of BC like most PS3's with BC?
Everything is supposed to work just fine, but I have encountered the bottom screen going blank in Advance Wars: Dual Strike when it transistions from the field screen to the battle screen numerous times on the 3DS. I haven't heard anyone else with that problem so it might be just me.

Ya pretty much this title is the only title that won't really work on the 3DS. I think the 3DS is 100% BC with the DSi.

Everything is fully compatible except for the guitar hero game which uses the DS Lite's GBA port. Also, if you plan to transfer Pokemon from Ruby/ Sapphire/ etc. from the GBA games to the DS games you need a DS Lite for that as well. All the other games work fine and you can even transfer everything saved on the DS to the 3DS, or from a 3DS to a new 3DS when the redesign comes out thanks to the transfer tool.

All my DS games work fine with it. I'm playing Devil Survivor 2 on it right now.
I had to patch my Acekard to get it to work on the 3DS. Other than that no problems
It's completely BC with DSi, but the GBA slot isn't there

It's fully BC with the DS (GH is the exception), but not with GBA games, but neither is the DSi.

So i'll probably just get the 3DS then, along with a few DS games that were on my "Whenever i get around to buying one list" and hope when I get done with those there are some 3DS only games i'm interested in.
Was going to invest some more in some stocks, but i mean screw that, between europe and the job numbers the only investment i'd feel safe about right now is farmland.
May as well enjoy myself.
Nintendo now seems to backwards compatibility a generation or two with their hardware that seems go away eventually. You had it with the handhelds:
* GB and GBC working with the Gameboy Advance.
* The DS ran GBA stuff. The DSi dropped GB and GBC support.
* 3DS drops GBA support completely and everything behind it, but should work with the DS stuff, fully pretty much.
