"...stagnated Alien franchise...". Nope, it's not stagnating. It should have ended after Aliens.

Prometheus is a redundant movie. It could still be good scifi movie though. Just like 2010: The Year We Make Contact and Alien 3. Both are redundant, but I like them.

You are so right I wish I could make a cookie fly out of your screen and right into your mouth. Well except about Alien 3, even then you are half right though lol.

Alien 3 is a train wreck. Bad in every single way as an alien movie (yes even the assembly cut). Honestly it was effectively a reboot of the franchise anyway. As a stand alone sci-fi movie it would be okay.
Then Alien: Resurrection was again effectively a reboot. A truly dreadful alien movie. It's  okay as a totally dumb, mind turned off sci-f adventure movie but even then it is VERY cheesy.

I want Prometheus to be good though. So much. However everything I have seen of it makes it seem just above average and totally un-needed for the alien franchise. Big spoilers are flowing all over the internet now and honestly from what I have heard about the Space Jockeys and origins of the alien I think it may well be far less interesting than the theories the original films created.

It somehow reminds me of the prequel/remake we got of the thing. It was just like... well okay I guess.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

I liked alien resurrection. I thought it was a fun and great ride. I agree with you about 3 though. The first 2 movies were the best ones in my opinion. I'm debating on going to see prometheus, but after reading some reviews on it,I might just wait until it comes out on DVD.

I tired to be all high minded about Alien 3 after watching the assembly cut twice and the theatrical version once. Since buying the Blu Ray anthology. I have come to the conclusion that it is a bad movie, with two awesome scenes.

One where ripley tries to get the Alien to kill her pokes at it and says "you've been in my life so long I cant remember anything else"

The other is the famous scene where it runs up to her face but wont kill her.

Alien Res is just a bad movie it starts out OK but once the dreadlocked guy dies the movie turned out awful. The birth scene and the hybrid creature border on spoof/comedic material.

I am really excited for Prometheus based on some reviews I've read it is not a game changer but from what I have seen and the talent of the people involved this will be an awesome movie.

If it's filmed in 3D does that mean I won't be able to go see it in 2D? 'cos if so that sucks.

lol no, it just means they use 3D cameras to film the movie while other movies (like avengers for example) uses normal cameras and then converts the movie to 3D instead of shooting it in 3D so basically it means the 3D will look better but 2D option is still available

there are some surprisingly good fan-edits of Alien3, mixing deleted scenes with parts of the original release and the assembly cut. Recently watched one I enjoyed quite a bit.

Ah good, thanks.

Just from the theater. It was great, my personal best of 2012 so far (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is pretty close second best). Everything was great. The theater was full (I with my friend were lucky enough to get the last seats on the back). And yeah, it shares a lot of DNA with Alien, even considering it's a standalone film. Only bad thing is that it was a regular release, all the IMAX screens were occupied by MIB 3 (which is also a fine flick) with only one Prometheus showing at midnight. I really hope that soon at least one IMAX screen will show it at the appropriate time - then I will re-watch it there, I think it pretty much worth it.

I don't know if Prometheus will become a new classic (I hope so), but only time will show it, as for any other movie. Anyway, it was a goddamn solid film at very least. The only thing that holds this movie from being even greater - it's technically an Alien side-prequel, so it lacks some freshness and unexpectedness, but at the same time it IS a great advantage of Prometheus. It IS a right sci-fi. I loved every freakin' second of it.

P.S.: Dat Guy Pearce.

P.P.S.: Film currently holds 85% at RT, which is great (as I said above - there is a room for criticism about originality and fresh ideas and maybe some other minor flaws) and 63 Metascore. More critics will give their opinions after American premiere. Anyway, it's safe to say now, that movie is already well-received. I'm sure it will do appropriate money at the box-office as well! ;)

didn't know it was open to the public already..

was the story set up in a such a way as to make a (Ridley Scott directed) sequel likely?

I have a bad feeling about Prometheus. I just think it's going to be very underwhelming after hearing of the rumours of an Alien prequel for so many years.

It is invading all the theaters in Europe right now.

Yep, the ending pretty much promises the continuity of this story (there is also a great fan service in the end). And Ridley (or 'khm' Jim Cameron 'khm') are only guys to handle it correctly in future, I suppose.
