Forums - Gaming - A Decade of GOTY

I was discussing game of the year choices with my bf for the past year and it got me to thinking what my choices would have been throughout the years. So, I looked back at video game releases for the last decade and determined what my GOTY would have been. Here is my list:

2011: Portal 2 (honorable mention: Batman: Arkham City)

2010: God of War III (honorable mention: Starcraft II)

2009: Uncharted 2

2008: SSB Brawl (honorable mention: Rock Band 2)

2007: COD4: Modern Warfare (honorable mention: Portal)

2006: Kingdom Hearts II

2005: Resident Evil 4

2004: Halo 2 (honorable mentions: GTA: San Andreas, MGS3)

2003: Final Fantasy XI (honorable mention: Mario Kart: Double Dash!!)

2002: Kingdom Hearts (honorable mentions: GTA: Vice City, Warcraft III)

I don't expect anyone else to name their goty for the last 10 years (it took me more time than I care to admit) but what was your pick for last year or the last several years?

That's a good idea. I'll have to go find the lists of releases for each year and make my own list. Mine will be a lot different I'm sure, in fact I'd pick some of your honorable mentions long before some of your picks. But with that said, your picks are all quality games.

2011: Skyrim

2010: Mass Effect 2

2009: Assassins Creed 2 or Resident Evil 5

2008: Fallout 3

2007: Mass Effect

2006: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

2005: Resident Evil 4

2004: Metal Gear Solid 3

2003: Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic

2002: Kingdom Hearts

I think my favorite game overall has been Resident Evil 4.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Tagged, I'll have to write down a list tomorrow.

2011 - Xenoblade Chronicles
2010 - Donkey Kong Country Returns
2009 - New Super Mario Bros. Wii
2008 - Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
2007 - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
2006 - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
2005 - Resident Evil 4
2004 - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
2003 - Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
2002 - Super Mario Sunshine

No double entry for the same series.

Just a question, have you ever owned a non-Nintendo console? I expect a pithy response but I'm willing to endure it because I'm genuinely curious.

Here's the list I was able to get from my bf:

2011: Dark Souls (honorable mention: Skyrim)

2010: Bayonetta (honorable mentions: Halo Reach, Mass Effect 2)

2009: Demon’s Souls (honorable mention: Modern Warfare 2)

2008: Rock Band 2 (honorable mention: SSB Brawl)

2007: Halo 3 (honorable mention: Mass Effect)

2006: Oblivion (honorable mention: Gears of War)

2005: Dead or Alive 4

2004: Halo 2

I was beginning to annoy him and I couldn't get the last two years but these are his choices. His overall game of the last decade would go to Halo 2.

2011: Mass Effect 2 (PS3)

2010: Yakuza 3

2009: Flower

2008: Fallout 3

2007: Earth Defense Force 2017

2006: Dead Rising

2005: Age of Empires III

2004: Rome: Total War

2003: Silent Hill 3

2002: Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes (PS2)

@OP: Not a bad list, but I'd replace the following (too lazy to make my own list).

2006: Twilight Princess
2003: Prince of Persia
2002: Metroid Prime

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

That explains the avatar. =p

That's a good choice. I actually hated the game the first time I played it. I was a big fan of the original three and when I first played 4 I was like 'wtf is this?' and quit about 10 minutes into it. I got bored about a year later and that was the only game I hadn't played yet so I gave it another shot and realized I had been an idiot for ever thinking that game was anything other than amazing.
